Doing my first Interail trip around Germany in September as follows

14-16th Hamburg
16th Hamburg-Neuremburg
17th Neuremberg-Indolstadt-Munich-Muldorf-Munich
18th Munich-Regensbery-Neuremberg
19th Neuremberg-Frankfert
20th Frankfert
21st Frankfert-Dresden
22nd Dresden
23rd Dreden-Cech border
24th Dresden-Hamburg


If anyone around areas certain days give me a shout. Will post my full train plan once Ive finished it

Sounds like a good trip ANWP Tom.

On the 23rd, if you get the Dresden S-Bahn, rather than an express train which don't stop, you can get off at Schona station which is the last station in Germany on this line. At this point, the west bank of the Elbe is in Germany, the east bank is in the Czech Republic. If you fancy a quick trip to the Czech Republic, there's an international ferry across the river from Schona station to Hrensko on the Czech bank, Hrensko is an attractive place to spend an hour or so over lunch.

Hrensko is just the place to stock up on stuff you cant buy in the UK - knuckledusters, knives... however, the touristy barge trip up the gorge is worth it.
Was v annoyed not to be able to pay the cheap CZK price on the ferry, half the EUR.
My wife reminds me this was all nearly 15 years ago so may have changed .

PS the line from Bad Schandau up to Sebnitz and on to Pirna via Neustadt is worth doing, but busutitution from Sebnitz is common - one of several German franchises that suffer from staff shortages!

Plan along the river from Dresden is to film a double headed steam charter first thing but thanks for the suggestions for filling the rest of the day.
