I've instructed on then until recently. Unlocking of the doors while the train is in motion has been prohibited on all classes for some years now as it is deemed as equally dangerous as locking people inside a carriage. Have a read of page 11 of the Railway Group Standard;

http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Railway_...ck/Railway Group Standards/GMRT2473 Iss 2.pdf

This paragraph in that document stands out:
" B2.2.2 Action to bring existing power operated external doors into compliance with the requirements of this document is not required ".

I can assure you implicitly that on any 14x or 15x unit that the opening of any exterior door is not contingent on train speed and would occur whether at 0mph or 75mph. The only unit of that type that has any kind of delay is the 158/159 which has a crude delay mechanism whereby once the egress plunger is activated train wire 4 is immediately broken initiating an emergency brake application, then the time taken for the air to drain from the door system (16-20 seconds typically) is the only thing stopping the doors being physically opened. Again this is the case whether at 0mph or 90mph. The low speed relay on these units does not affect the operation of foor circuits in any way.

Ah. My mistake, that would have been around 2009/10. From memory it didn't include a new floor lino just a very good clean of the FNW one.

Ah yes. They did like with the ex-FNW 156s and left out the new floor covering initially and then came back to it years later. The ex-FNW 150s are currently in the process of getting replacement floor covering.

Around 2002 I think the FNW 150s were refurbished. The ATN sets still had the same BR layout the LM sets arrived with. The ATN sets were carrying BR Pay train notices until refreshed a few years ago.

When Northern first transferred them to Newton Heath they still had posters on board saying the British Rail Passengers Charter can be obtained at any staffed station.

Worst of all though was the lack of refurbishment: I’m certain that the train hadn’t been refurbished, other than the addition of Northern liveried seat covers, since it was built.
The Central Trains, later London Midland, units underwent a refurbishment in around 2005 - However, the majority of the work was mechanical and the interiors were little changed. I would agree that the old BR interiors in these units are ill suited to modern standards of travel, and that there is an absolute world of difference between these and the thoroughly refurbished ATW and FGW examples of the 150 fleet, which are perfectly decent trains to travel on.
