I saw Tornado on the above railtour passing through Retford on it's way to York yesterday. It was running about 15 minutes late at the time, but following it on Real Time Trains, I noticed that this time was made up.

I also had a look at how it was doing on the return journey. I didn't go and see it, but I let my Dad know that it was again 15 minutes late so he could see in the distance from home (he had been at work so had missed it in the morning).

After that, I didn't follow it on Real Time Trains until earlier today as I wanted to see the time it got into London. According to this, it was cancelled due to a request by the customer, but arrived at Finsbury Park 46 minutes late. The ECS appears to have started from Finsbury Park instead of Kings Cross as orignally planned.

What I was wondering is, did the train terminate short due to late running, or some other reason? I'm guessing the passenger's tickets were valid on First Capital Connect services into King Cross? Has anyone got any further information about the late running?

Doesn't anyone know anything about this railtour?

I am not sure if it did finish at Finsbury Park or KX.

However, I was a UKRailtours non steam charter the same day, we did start and finish at KX, on the outbound journey, we were a few minutes ahead of teh steam charter you are mentioning and on the way back, we should have been just behind it and were were until the Peterborough/Stevenage area where infact we we put on the fast line and overtook Tornado which was speeding along very well. I can't see that the NR would allowed two charter trains to finish at Finsbury Park, hopefully another member here will have the answer. Rgds.

Asking around i was advised that the delay from Peterborough was caused by the TOC requesting a short notice change of the loco watering point from Eastfield Yard to Connington Fen. This then delayed further services including the other charter (Lincolnshire coaster). The train seems to have been cancelled at Finsbury Park following an issue with DBS crewing. Perhaps due to late running they didn't have a driver available to work into KX?

I looked on Six Bells Junction website and that too says it terminated at Finsbury Park, but no reason was given. Perhaps it was due to operational reasons owing to it's late running and later empty stock movements etc.
