With The Big Bang Theory S8 due out on DVD today, I have decided to start this thread to discuss it.

What is your favourite episode of it?
What is your fave series?

Series 5 is probably my favourite series but I can't choose an episode (they are all very good).

The new series starts in the US/Canada next Monday, and there was quite a cliffhanger at the end of the last series.

I enjoyed the first few seasons, but it seems to have turned into more of a soap of late, with too much focus on relationship issues and less of the clever 'nerd' humour that made it so different.

I've read that criticism a lot and I can see the argument, but if you look right at the start, relationships (or lack of) with the opposite sex have been at the heart of the stories, for example Leonard desperately going after Penny, Howard's overconfidence, Raj's inability to even talk to women. The main difference now is that they all actually have relationships, but there are still comedic consequences as a result of the "nerd" behaviour.

I enjoy it because it has allowed the characters to evolve through the series from the geeks they were into (nearly) normal people!

I love TBBT, been hooked for years. Glad to hear the new series is about to start across the pond, not much longer to wait now for it here.

Rather looking forward to seeing what happens after that last bit of Season 8!

As for favourite episodes and all that, I'll come back to you as that will take some working out!

I really enjoy TBBT. I'd agree that it's becoming a bit more "mainstream" in its approach as of late. All comedy shows that run for a while do tend to move in that direction. I think that TBBT has managed it quite well. We're seeing the "nerds" develop more as they mature, and I think the direction of the show fits with that. They are still true to what they started off as. I still laugh at the science jokes - because they're science jokes, not (just) because they're being used in the wrong situation.

It's probably the best mainstream American comedy there has been for some time, but there have definitely been better in days gone by.

I watched all of season 8 when it was on E4, I am missing a couple of seasons on DVD yet.

Been higher priorities than buying DVDs for a while to be honest! That has now changed however several times in the last few days...

None of my family bother with TV (but we have one for DVDs) so I always have to wait for them to come out on DVD. Hopefully someone else will buy it before I have to bite the dust and do it!

As a member of the Autistic Community, my initial feelings towards TBBT were not great, but over time I've found myself being more irritated by the treatment of the female characters than the admittedly sympathetic, if comical, treatment of Dr. Sheldon Cooper. The opening episode of the latest season suggests that a further revision might be in order though.
