What is the best & worst TOC? Based on any grounds (rolling stock/staff/service etc)
WSMR in every category
GNER - The Trains, the coaches, the service, the station, the staff, the livery THE BEST! couldn't ever fault it personally!!!
Bring it back with a better money management team!!!
In a sea of mediocre train operators, the only true railway company. I mourn its passing.
The current East Coast does OK, although I much prefer Grand Central (for as long as they keep the HSTs anyway). Virgin try hard enough, although their stock isn't exactly perfect. Scotrail is generally good, and they seem to try a lot harder than certain operators down south. LOROL is doing remarkably well considering their starting point.
As for the worst, well NXEC was the biggest let-down, and I'm glad they're gone. FGW has done terrible things to the reputation of a great name, but they're not so bad really. AXC is slowly turning from Intercity to regional fast train operator.
Worst of the lot, can I say DfT Rail? Maybe that'll change soon.

I'm ready for the hate mail.
BEST - Cross Country. Friendly staff, comfy trains!
WORST - Northern, the staff were terrible, the trains were terrible and the stations are the worst.
This is my own experience
Runner-up for Worst - Northern. Tatty rolling stock (yes I know it is old, but even old stock can look nice if looked after), tatty scruffy staff, absolutely appalling at managing disruption and providing information, un-cared for, run down stations.
Aha, only on the Western side though. The Eastern side has all the best stock, better station facilities, even better Pacers![]()
WORST - CrossCountry. Gross overcrowding on most services. Poor trains. Poor catering provision. Expensive fares.
Wrexham & Shropshire are the best, period.
Of those I've used though, I think it's a fight between c2c and London Midland.
MattE2010, you should add a vote to this and see who comes up trumps out of TOC's!
OK - please tell me how to because from my understanding you can only make them when creating a new thread
PM You in a few mins.
