Repeats; it specifically says in the Radio Times "previously shown on Yesterday".

That doesn't stop the on screen Freeview guide using the word "new" in front of it; it seems to do that whenever anything is shown on a different channel from previously!!

Thanks. It’s a shame BBC2 never picked up this and Secrets of the London Underground for new episodes.
I find TV companies very lazy these days. Most (and UKTV is the worst) just repeat old programs to death year after year. However that could be a whole new thread!

Yes,I saw that on another thread. It’s probably a bit too niche for the BBC to make new episodes.

Oh good, this news is out. The nice thing about it is that it’ll now be on iPlayer for a bit and have an even wider audience range.

It’s only series 1 for now, which was filmed the summer before Covid and was screened in April; just when everybody else had run out of programmes, along came me on the Yesterday Channel pointing at signal boxes and wearing a tube scarf at Snowdon Summit station - a truly captive audience

bbc4 doesn’t commission new progs any longer. But my progs were effectively made for the BBC as UKTV is part of BBC Studios. The model for making shows like the 76 ish i did was fairly budget stuff, but using highly skilled and experienced creatives to make that less obvious — then repeating it because it always finds an audience again on digi channels, and then resale to other countries or networks. And sadly no, I don’t get repeat fees.

The reason for the many repeats of old shows is because there’s very little money now to make new TV shows. The more channels we had, the more thinly the money was spread (in simple terms). TV’s gradual decline in the face of web video content continues (hence Brown bob shutting, like very many other Indy outfits) but it’s stuff like this or where it is made with online streaming in mind (UKTV’s u stream player has amazing stuff on it) where the two merge neatly.

Probably not, but at 7pm on BBC4 tonight there is "The architecture the railways built", prog 2/10 - which I missed prog 1 last week.
Maybe first broadcast on BBC2 or something, but it doesn't show as a repeat on https://www.tvguide.co.uk/

Indeed. Tonight's episode featuring the Ffestiniog Railway and Amsterdam Centraal station was first broadcast on the "Yesterday" channel in early May 2020, during the middle of lockdown! The BBC4 re-run of the first series started last night.

Yes, I didn't remember the Ffestiniog as a stand-alone programme, but the other two of tonight's segments sound familiar, Amsterdam and ?

The Great Central Hotel attached to Marylebone station, later BR Board offices and now the luxurious Landmark Hotel.
It was slightly strange switching directly between subjects without the usual advert break, but well worth watching again.

Another episode being shown/reshown on BBC4 at 7.00 p.m. tonight (Thursday 6th February 2025). This one is Series 1 Episode 3 (first aired in May 2020) and features Kings Cross station, the disused Clifton Rocks funicular railway in Bristol, Dartmouth station in Devon and Göltzsch viaduct in Germany.

An advantage this time around is that showing them on a main BBC channel means that they are on the iPlayer, and look as if they will remain there for the next 11 months.
