Watched this last night, looks like it wil be another good series. The quote that made me laugh the most from one of the candidate's was 'when people say the sky's the limit I say your wrong as their are footprints on the moon'. Sir Alan sacked the right person, 'I am not an accountant' Edward Hunter.

They were interviewing one of the producers on Five Live this morning. I didn't watch it, I just don't have time, but they were saying that the candidates were looking quiet strong and driven.

I was virtually shouting at the TV 'answer the question!' when he was asked yes/no questions but answered with statements such as I have the experience

Or when asked about his training as an accountant, the answer was "Don't fit the mould"!

A good start to the new series. I agree with the panellist who said Ed was trying too hard to shake off the accountant label. In the past, Lord Sugar has expressed his concern with academic types and I think Ed was very conscious of that.

I took a dislike to Edna. As the figures person she is NOT responsible for authorising spending, she is responsible for keepiong track of it!

Just finished watching it this morning. The right person went imo but I thought it was a bit unfair to blame the juice guy.

1400 oranges, two blenders and one guy doing it all.... what do they expect? Were those blenders even designed for that level of work in such a short time?

And he wasn't very happy about it

I picked the winning team about 10 seconds in, such was the shambolic nature of team "Logic" :| And I thought that Edward would go within about 10 seconds of seeing him on screen!

To be honest the boy's team was shambolic really. How they expect someone to juice 1400 oranges in an hour. And their bartering was shameful.

It was like bartering in Tesco. It was never going to happen. Accept it and move on. I struggle to believe that that's the only man in New Covent Garden Market selling Oranges!

Looks a good lot (ie, bunch of arseholes), but I'm very disappointed that they've taken away Prokofiev :(

I'm glad they've changed the format of the show now as well. it will hopefully make the candidates work harder as they will have to come up with their own business idea to go into partnership with.

Talk about putting all your oranges in the one basket!

The girls were less bad than the boys, but that's as much as I'll give them. Their supply chain logistics were absolutely rubbish and they didn't even make fifty quid from the pasta.

You will have to excuse the full-on GOG grumpiness here but it's shows like this that demonstrate everything that's wrong with our country's ability to produce any decent businessmen today, much less for the future. Almost every candidate on this series is fake, and the tasks are hardly stretching their entreprenurial ability is it? If I've had such an implausibly high-standard of education as some of them proclaim they've had, surely I should know how to spell 'vegetable' just as I should know that 14,000 oranges for such a small team is completely impractical. Just what part of this show is any way related to business and why are all the candidates such obvious fakes?

There, I've said my piece, now I'm off for a kip...

All very well said and The Apprentice only seems to show that you've got to be a bigger bulls*****r than the next person, or know how to pass the buck.

Being able to blame someone else should mean any of these sacked candidates have a bright future in the railway industry!

Making profit, I suppose.

I have concluded that it is because other people are either successful enough that they don't need to go on the show, or clever enough not to want to associate with the type of person that is typically on it. (I had been encouraged by several colleagues to apply, and declined, claiming the second ground :))

I actually know someone who applied for the Junior Apprentice and got past the first few rounds. Won't be on TV though.

I think Edna messed up tonight and she will be found out once the girls team loses. Her 'pitch' had to eb the most cringeworthy thing I have ever seen on the show. Even worse than 'Pantsman'.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this (and it's not just dislike of Karen Brady)

To me the show appears to reward arrogance and hyperbole. I saw a bit of the last series while I was out of town (late night tv is lame!) and it was awful - too much bragging and not enough work.

I have to say I agree. Whilst in my view, it's far better than the likes of X Factor and Britains Not Got Talent, I still think there is quite a nasty, shady and 'knives in the back' element to the show.

It is, of course, that aspect which makes it excellent television. Our desire to watch real people plotting and stabbing each other in the back was first realised by Endemol, when they gave us Big Brother! I quite enjoyed the first couple of series, but the hysteria surrounding the show, and the producers desire to pick more and more outlandish people saw me become fed up with it.

I think the same thing may have happened, to a lesser extent, with The Apprentice. There is, naturally, more of an attempt to play to the cameras once a show has become established. The participants tend to know what to expect, and having seen earlier series should also have an idea of good tactics and startegy. This will add to the sense of fakery.

However I still think that the programme is worthwhile and entertaining. Sadly, Mrs greenback does not agree, and goes and hides in anothe rroom for the duration. She hates everything about it, from the sound of Alan Sugar to the way they all dress!

Last night's episode encapsulated perfectly the major flaw in this otherwise excellent and entertaining show, which I've been conscious of since series 1.

The boys were better organised, had a better looking, better designed product, delivered better pitches despite foul of some tetchy, overly-politically-correct eejit with a stupid haircut. They also worked very well together, were decisive and just more professional all round. The *only* thing the girls did better was pick (wholly by accident) a slightly better idea in the first place. Yet none of this matters one jot in the final, grammatically dodgy 'most amount of downloads' analysis with which SrAlan simplistically picks the winners. We've seen this sort of thing before where the obviously better team lost by bad luck and the worst contestants were immune from firing, but never as spectacularly as last night.

The fact is that rather dodgy accents using largely UK slang does not have a broad international appeal. Noises were simply better suited tot he global market. An important lesson in business I think. So, no, I don't think that the boys product was better in the context, I thought it was rather cringeworthy in fact, though I can see a certain appeal in the UK for a teenage market.

Personally, I would have sacked Glen for coming up with the idea!

I think they were both awful, awful products. The guys was a slightly amusing soundboard, a concept that has been done to death already on the www. The girls had an unamusing, random soundboard. They kept trying to pass of the sheer awfulness of the product as "part of its appeal".

I didn't say the product was better, but that it was better looking, better designed etc, and that the boys approached the thing far more professionally and with better organisation. In terms of everything bar initial concept, the boys outshone the girls by a country mile this time. But there can never be any allowance for that as the show's format demands that the losing team be treated as cretins and failures no matter how good they actually were.

I'm fortunate Greenback in that I live alone and am unmarried, so I can quite easily avoid the programme.

I agree, it is entertaining, but it isn't remotely related to business. I watched the first couple of series and I also agree that it's heading down the path of being hyped every series. Still, if some people like it, who am I to tell them otherwise?

The Apprentice is one of my guilty pleasures:D, i normally hate reality shows.

That always happens, the way TA is edited, the team that looks hopeless during the task almost always ends up winning.
