The 6:51 Leeds - Preston

Just a quick query.

Does any one know if the 6:51 Leeds - Preston (getting in 8:38 on Saturday) tends to get in in good time with plenty of padding, or if it tends to cut it to the wire ?

I want to get the 8:42 onward Northern train to Carlisle, but this leaves a particularly cruddy connection time of 4 mins

thats very tight is that, ive travelled between Leeds and Preston quite abit and 4 minutes can easily be lost en route, and at Preston you will probably have to leg it across the station to another platform, unless the Carlisle train leaves from platform 2??

On departure from Leeds the service calls at: New Pudsey, Bradford Int, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Burnley Manc Rd, Accrington, Blackburn and Preston - all you need is the service to leave a minute late at each stn and you have technically missed your connection at Preston before you arrive.

Indeed. I was hoping that maybe they might have padded out the timetable to take account of such delays. According to NRE it's a treck from Platform 2 to 5 as well.

Westbound trains on the route are generally reasonably punctual but not to the minute. And if you have to change platforms via the footbridge you might be delayed by a ticket check too.

What's plan B?

Being pedantic: If it leaves a minute late at each station, it will arrive at Preston only a minute late.

If you need to get between platforms quickly at Preston, use the subway. Fewer people use it and you won't get a ticket check going that way.

As it turns out, the train got in a couple of minutes early, leaving plenty of time to negotiate the ticket check.

Don't know which one exactly other than that it was a 156.
