Right so Biden in his official capacity as President could order for Trump to be assassinated and be immune from prosecution?

Pretty much. He could also order the all the Republican members of the Supreme Court who ruled in favour of this impeached, removed and/or arrested if he so wished, to say nothing of all those in government who are complict and/or directly involved in the planning and execution of January 6th (and the attempted whitewashing there-of in the years since). Toss them all into Rikers Island and be done with it, no due process, no trial, nothing.

I don't think he would, but the implications and precidents this ruling sets is plain for most (aka, those who ain't political hostages to or are being blackmailed by Trump in some way; why else would they vote in favour of something so blatantly asinine?) to see.

And American democracy takes another shaky step towards the abyss as a result. Am shocked, but not in the least bit surprised.

Of course Democrats have to take some blame. Bill Maher a well known media personality and progressive- liberal (donated over 2 million $ to his campaign) has recently called Biden “Ruth Bader Biden”. RBG should have retired during the Obama presidency so that he could have picked her successor. Instead, she thought she would live forever but died during the Trump presidency and he picked Amy Coney Barrett to replace her. So one hard left replaced by one hard right.
However left:right is 3:6, so this would probably still have passed even if RBG had a left-leaning replacement during the Obama era. And if she'd stepped down late in that era a Republican Senate would have stalled her replacement to allow Trump to appoint them, they did he did after Scalia died in Feb 2016.

Only on the conclusion of a legal process to decide whether it was legitimate Presidential business, which would pretty much inevitably land up in ... the Supreme Court.

The Three Stooges were a vaudeville/comedy act in the USA for about fifty years until 1970, with dozens of films produced by Columbia Pictures. All told, there were six stooges in that time, though only three at any one time. I suggest a modern version, the Six Stooges, maybe under contract to Trump Pictures. I'm sure they could sell the rights to both Russian and North Korean TV. The scripts would consist of verbatim transcripts of the actual words used by the Magnificent Six. If shown at an old-fashioned cinema, they could pair it with ''One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'' on a double bill. All proceeds would be divided between the Trump Foundation and Alex Jones' Infowars. <( God help America.

I don't see it quite that way. Ex-presidents may now be considered immune from prosecution for official acts. That does not, by itself, make all such acts legal.

Very true. But it goes without saying the precedent this ruling sets shatters yet more guardrails, if there were any left.

I see US President Joe Biden has blamed his poor debate performance last week on jet lag, even though he last returned from foreign travel on 15th June, nearly two weeks before the 27th June debate with Donald Trump.

If Biden is forced to step down, it will probably happen in the next week. Given that we've had reports yesterday of governors meeting to discuss the matter, as well as a Democratic Representative in Congress publicly calling for him to step down, such a move can't be ruled out.

I really think they have little choice. Trump is pretty much bulletproof no matter what gaffs or drivel comes out of his mouth whilst Biden is his opponent, whereas every slipup from Biden goes straight under the microscope. So while they still have time the Dems need to get someone new into place who can then show Trump for the gibbering lunatic that he really is.

Foreign travel or travel travel? US from coast to coast is a decent flight.
Correct. Even when I fly back from Las Vegas (Pacific Time) to Chattanooga (Eastern Time) it can definitely cause me a day or two to adjust to those time zones.

However, you will not get much better comfort than the presidential quarters on Air Force 1.

Yet the authorities scrutinise every move Trump makes while turning a blind eye to Biden and the Democrats. We still don't know who put the cocaine in the White House, for starters.

The Republicans have published a 900-page document, entitled Project 2025. It is effectively a Manifesto, and those who struggled through reading it to the end. Have stated that it is channelling Mein Kampf.

I wonder why they do? I mean it's not like Trump has ever done anything wrong....Oh wait...

Project 2025 is the Heritage Foundation, not the Republican Party. It’s a fevered wish list from some some on the right wing, but doesn’t have any real status.
Even Trump has claimed it’s ridiculous.

For it to be 900 pages I suspect there’s a lot of pictures :)

Yes - they have created a King. it is a very sad and worrying day for American democracy.

This ruling has really shown up American democracy for what it is: a system in which the President rules by executive orders, controlled by a Supreme Court that is acting as the only source of law due to the inability of Congress to legislate.

I don't think it's hyperbole to say that if Trump wins, the Republicans will demolish democracy in the states that they control. They have (if I've counted correctly) 21 trifectas at the minute in which they control both levels of the state legislature and the governor.

About Biden: I regret to say this, but he needs to step aside. He might be an honourable and good man, but his debate performance pretty much confirmed that he's no longer in the shape needed for the highest office.

As far as I'm concerned, he's being abused. He isn't really much of a president as it is. He barely knows what's going on and has become the laughing stock of the world. Anyone with any decency would tell him to step down to save himself from his disgrace.
I wonder if Jimmy Carter will outlive him!

Was the debate, the public sign that something was wrong. The same as at a Banquet for a Royal visit, when Ronald Reagan called the Princess of Wales, Princess David.

Yes. He should have announced he would stand down 3/4 of the way during his term of office. Quit while you are winning. Much as I detest Trump, Biden reminds me of Godfrey from Dad’s Army. If he is struggling now at 81…

Doesn't mean we should ignore its contents. "The road to fascism is lined with people telling you to stop overreacting."

I think he really needs to go. It is not about age so much as about ability, some people are still as sharp as a knife at 81, others start to slow down and I think Biden is one of them. I am only in my 40's now and I am not as sharp as I was 20 years ago!

Needs to go right now, not a second to waste! It's no use five separate Democrat senators individually calling for him to stand down, it needs a group of at least 15 of them, representing different wings, states, ethnicities and both male and female, to get a letter published in the New York Times demanding he stand down. It would do the trick, I'm sure, without much further ado. Personally, I hope neither Biden nor Trump makes it onto the ballot paper. Silly old fools, both of them, and I should know, being one of them myself!

There is a Meme of Freddy from Scooby-Doo about to unmask the ghost, who is wearing Project 2025 as a mask. Underneath it is revealed as Mein Kampf.

The tide is turning further against Biden continuing to run:

Several more senior members of President Joe Biden's Democratic party have privately joined calls for him to hand over his candidacy for November's election to another candidate, US media report.
During a group call with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, four congressmen were explicit in urging Mr Biden to step aside, according to outlets including the BBC's US partner CBS News.
The quartet were joined by others who voiced concerns about Mr Biden's fitness for office after a recent stumbling debate performance, but stopped short of asking for the president to clear the way, CBS added.
Mr Biden has vowed to fight on, and has retained the support of other Democrats who insist he is the man to beat Donald Trump in November's vote.
Scrutiny of Mr Biden's candidacy is expected to intensify on Monday with the return of lawmakers to Capitol Hill. The president will also be in the spotlight in the days ahead as he hosts a summit in Washington for leaders of Nato countries.
American media reports slightly diverged on which Democratic representatives said what during the private conversation with Mr Jeffries on Sunday.
Jerry Nadler, Mark Takano and Adam Smith all said Mr Biden should step aside, according to multiple outlets, citing people on the call or familiar with what was said.
Joe Morelle added his voice, according to CBS and the New York Times, but the Associated Press said that the fourth person was Jim Himes.
Others expressed concerns about Mr Biden's electoral chances against Trump. None of the representatives have made their comments public.

Long-standing questions about Mr Biden's age escalated after last month's televised head-to-head with Donald Trump, in which the president stumbled over some answers or appeared to lose his train of thought.
Various explanations were offered by the Biden camp, including that the president had a cold and was exhausted by travel.
A day afterwards, Mr Biden was defiant at a rally in Wisconsin, although this did little to quell the fears of some allies. Last week, Lloyd Doggett became the first Democrat in Congress to urge Mr Biden to step aside.
He was publicly echoed last week by at least four colleagues - and later, privately, by the additional four who reportedly gave their views to Mr Jeffries on Sunday.
Trump has celebrated Mr Biden's shaky showing and last week labelled his rival "broken-down". He is three years Mr Biden's junior as he bids to return to the White House, despite a recent conviction in a New York criminal hush-money case.

Still can't see him standing down though until close family members tell him to, so democrats should trying to persuade them more directly.

The party representatives need to state publically that it's imperative, regardless now of the feelings of Biden, his wife, his sister and Uncle Tom Cobleigh and all. Time is of the essence and very little remains now.

Absolutely, the Democratic Party need to move fast on this one. Every day Biden holds on plays into the Trump team hands. And its not as if they don't have a very good candidate-in-waiting, Kamala Harris would wipe the floor with Trump.
