Have just received notification that BA are going to cough up the £68.50 it cost me in a Taxi to get back to Falkirk after their last flight of the day from LHR to EDI was over an hour late meaning I'd missed the last train home.

Wasn't sure they would cough on this one - grateful - every little helps.

We had a BA flight cancellation due to "weather" a few months ago.

BA paid for a taxi from the hotel they put us up at near the airport (even though they had arranged a coach shuttle), and also for my parents' train tickets back home (they had booked tickets for the original date of travel).

In my experience BA are actually pretty good at paying out these incurred expenses, they are just not very good at telling passengers that they CAN claim them! Personally I would prefer that they ran a schedule that is achievable day-in day-out and not subject to constant 'minor' delays. My latest example on Tuesday - arrived at Heathrow from US West Coast 30 minutes late - parked on remote stand and waited for 40 minutes for any busses to show - therefore failing to meet T5 Conformance times and missing our connecting flight back to Aberdeen and having to wait another 2 and half hours for the next one. In the last 6 months my cumulative delays through Heathrow are approaching 24 hours (not counting a 24 hour weather cancellation)

In December I flew back to LHR from Berlin and discovered all connecting flights home to Scotland were binned for the day. Ended up renting a car at 6pm, driving north well into the early hours and then had to return the car the next day as I had business in London. The flights were paid for with Avios and a two-for-one voucher. All the Avios were refunded to me. Could / should I have claimed more? Car rental, 800 miles' worth of fuel, etc.. not sure if that'd have been greedy.

No, I’d say you’d have been well within your rights to claim it, although the fact trains would have been available at that time could have affected their decision.

I recall AWC being on strike during December 11th when we landed. Based on the timings on the day only the Sleeper would have been feasible but probably full as a result of that.

I got stuck in London on one of their IT Meltdowns last year.

They paid for my 1st Class Ticket from London to Sandwell & Dudley and then an onward EasyJet flight from Brum to Edinburgh the following day. I stayed overnight i at ex-wife's in W Mids. Plus I got the whole cost of my Mini Break that had started in Edinburgh and was due to go to Germany refunded.

Where they and others fall down is when say you are 90 mins late down to them and get SFA in the form of compensation.

I'm surprised they paid for you to go to Sandwell and Dudley not Birmingham International, Sandwell and Dudley is 30 minutes of going the wrong way!
