I recently purchased The Railway Magazine, just after getting fully into railways, trains and generally spotting them, jotting the numbers and keeping them.

My question is as follows:

I was reading the 'Traction Update Track Record' section in the back of the above magazine, and it says 'Allocation Changes', it then has what I assume to be a train number; then 4 letters followed by a dash, followed by another four, and this continues so that 8 or 16 separate letters, parted into four appear..

Do the letters stand for anything? If So What?
example: '66137 WBAN-WNTR-WBAM'

The same sheet has two letters as well, these fit with the 'Allocation Changes' but aren't as many as previous - what are they?

They are whats known as the loco pool codes which are four letters. In your example it means that the loco has changed pools two times. The pools are simply groups of locos based on operating company or the locos role within the company. WBAN is the pool for class 66s at Toton. WNTR is a stored pool and WBAM DBS Energy class 66s. The two letter codes are the depot allocation. In your example a loco/MU has moved from being unallocated or stored (HQ) to a working depot in this case AG although Im not sure which one this is. Depot codes are unique to a depot. Its annoying magazines dont explain the codes.
