Hey Ladies and Gents,
Just want to pass on my thanks for all the information posted in the forums. I have used some of the information to help me revise and it has worked. I have passed all assessments and now have a conditional offer of employment, pending a medical and D&A testing. Again thanks to all who have posted info as it really helped. :D

Just got mine from ScotRail today too, like many others have said before this site has been invaluable.
So its just the disclosure, medical and references which will be ok then then fun really begins.
Out of curiosity Scottdm, is it the Tweedbank depot you'll be working from?

Thats great news Scottdm, I've got my medical on Monday and the disclosure is done and clear so hopefully I'll be passed fit for work. Just out of curiosity what tests do they do on you.

Dave, the medical consisted of drugs test (urine sample) I think they also checked for sugar in the urine(diabetes). You get breathalysed for the alcohol test, Eye test, hearing test, blood pressure, ECG scan, then you see the doc. She checked for mobility, co-ordination, peripheral vision and had a chat, I think trying to work out if I had all my marbles........luckily I bought some on my way!! Takes a couple of days for the drug test to come back, but the doc will tell you there and then if you are passed fit pending drug test or not. Hopefully all goes well for you.:D

Yes, so if you have ever had a run in with the police that will show up on the CRB

Not always true. A "Basic Disclosure" will only show unspent convictions - spent convictions will not be mentioned. A prison term of >=2.5 years never achieves a spent status - and will always show up even on a Basic Disclosure.

It's also worth noting that if the job description or application-form stated that you didn't need to specify spent convictions then the job is not exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Certain jobs - like working with children for example - are exempt from this act, and require even spent convictions to be mentioned. Or a Standard or Enhanced Disclosure - which will show convictions, spent or otherwise.

Unless the job is exempt from the act then it's a tricky process to get anything other than a Basic Disclosure on a person. In fact there are safeguards in place to stop this.

Providing you don't have any unspent convictions a Basic Disclosure will show you to have a clean record.
