Thameslink via Clapham Junction?

Spotted this working through Clapham Junction today, and was wondering two things.

Firstly why was it working on this route, it seems to be the only service that worked this way, and it doesn't appear to happen on other days?

And secondly, what unit would have operated it? I wouldn't expect Class 700s to be clear for the area (not heard of any previous tests), and as Class 319s are no longer around, I'd assume it to be a Class 377/5.

It's a standard diversionary route. It certainly was a few years ago (thanks SimSig for teaching me that!)

700s definitely clear via Clapham Junction on this diversionary route. Granted that it is unusual for Thameslink to go this way but I was lucky enough to be on a 700 diverted this way a few weeks ago.

It won't be too long before 700s have to work Victoria to East Grinstead trains during the period between their introduction on East Grinstead peak services and the new Thameslink timetable coming into force.

I thought the cl700 were taking over the London Bridge to East Grinstead and by extension Bedford once they go through the core and a lot of London Bridge East Grinsteads are worked off empties from Selhurst depot. On the other hand because of Horsham stock workings there will be London Bridge arrivals that will work back to London Victoria and vice versa.

A simple look at the line up of East Grinstead departures on RTT shows that there are a number of London Bridge to East Grinstead contra-peak workings in the morning that then form a Victoria service in the current timetable.

Clearly they will ultimately go through the Thameslink core and Victoria / London Bridge workings will be disentangled but that can't be until the May 2018 Thameslink timetable is in force.
