Thameslink + Tube

I was wondering whether on a point to point ticket with a cross London transfer from a Thameslink station to Paddington whether it would be permissable to carry on past St Pancras to Farringdon, and then switch to the tube to Paddington, or whether that would be considered doubling back.
If it changes anything, it would be an advance single Flitwick-Swansea.

Also, am I right in thinking that it's pretty much cross platform between the south thameslink line and the westbound circle line platforms (ignoring the wall and few steps) - or has it changed?

Yes, that's fine. The no doubling back rule does not apply either within station groups, or for cross-London transfers as far as I can determine.

It's a very easy interchange, as you say pretty much cross-platform. Looks like there is no level access but just a few steps (maximum of 8 ) between the lines. See Farringdon Station Plan.

I've often wondered whether a Cross London (maltese cross) journey is allowed to be made using a combination of tube + Thameslink service. This is one I used to do a lot as well - WCML to Euston, then tube to Kings Cross/St Pancras for the southbound Thameslink to London Bridge... rather than use the tube only ....

It probably was slower but a nicer train
