maybe we'll see a speeding up of the viyals being applied

I don't know when it happened, but I travelled on a vinyled 377508 out of Brighton this morning (0836), coupled to the south end of 377501 making a fully vinyled 8-car!

:)

Well last night saw the unit leave Derby 15mins early but arrive at Selhurst 42 late. Why? Well track problems near Leicester, scheduling error at Kettering and the best excuse Ive yet to hear (and I last week heard a train delayed due to distruptive customers) was Lecister PSB 'mislaid' the paperwork for 5X77!

Well what do you expect for the 13th 377/5 to be released?

Also of note was 377504 this morning leading 377509 as 2T07. Seems I was right as 504 now has the full FCC livery! Place your bets to see if FCC can livery all their 377/5 before another 377/5 hits Cauldwell or Network Rail finally upgrades the BML for all 23 377/5!

Am told 377511 will be out this morning in service in full fcc livery.

Just noticed this after I typed the above message. Can anyone confirm if 377511 is out in service today in full livery or is it just 504?

Good golly, it sounds like Bombardier have finally dispatched a 377/5 or two on their specific planned initial delivery dates! (And a day early for 516 unless you meant Thursday night - in any case the 13th journey wasn't that long compared to others I'm sure.)

Anyway, even once NR have upgraded the BML power supply they still have the MML power supply to deal with. Are they waiting until the latter stages of KO1 to upgrade it?

I'm amazed 511 got to Bedford without a word spoken about its arrival until now, come to think of it are 207/208 back there too?

Well no as they sent the train away and it arrives early hours. I always count the date it arrives at Selhurst not the date it leaves Derby, Small detail I know and me and Ajax were both on nights so its all one big blur!

From the information I got the MML upgrade isn't needed for all 23 377/5. It will be needed for the NXEMUs however so is likely to be needed in mid 2012 once the fleet strats being put into service. This would mean it should be completed by Easter 2012-ish.

It seems 377511 went under the radar expect one sighting at Tulse Hill when it lead 377207/208 to Cauldwell. Something Im surprised at!

Interesting. That leads to two points:

* 516 arrived at Selhurst on Friday morning, not Friday night. ;)
* Back in late May westcoaster stated that the MML OHLE could only cope with up to 10 377s on the move. I don't see how that fits in with the upgrade not taking place until after the NGEMUs start to appear.

@edvid - 23x377s; 20 diagrams; so 10 377s north of Farringdon at any given time. Job done.

Er how did you get 10 377s north of Farringdon from 20 diagrams or did you mean at any one time? (ie 10 on the BML, 10 on the MML). If there is a limit to the MML then just diagraming them wont make sure that there is just enough on the line as delays, unit failures will see that higher. Especially if the fleets based on the MML. The hard limit would mean a failure on the MML and you can't replace it with another train (ie failure at Filwick limits options and remember shunting of the units happens as well so there many be more than 20 around the MML).

It just seems to me its FCC's limit not Network Rail's. After all there will be spare 377's once the whole fleet is delivered meaning that 3 units are suppoed to be on standby. Think there might be some confusion bewteen FCC limiting the full use of the 377s and the limit on the BML rather than both lines being restricted.

If there was a limit its either not being addressed yet or its been removed since they'll haven't mentyioned it at all and yet the BML issue has been discussed.

Interesting. That leads to two points:

All units are booked to arrive around 0200-ish.

An upgrade to the MML is likely to be need as part of KO1 for the demands of the new units and see above for the limits of the 377's on the MML.

There were some power supply problems this morning - any idea what it was?

Yeah, let's slam it!

Maybe by the time the station is open, it will actually have been converted to a maglev train and glide along the track at 500mph.

That should help it maintain 24tph too, although it will have to brake quite sharpish going north to City Thameslink.

And all the photos I see showing the future railway stations with people (King's Cross, St Pancras, Blackfriars etc) all seem to show a life where black people are non-existent.

Now, I'm not suggesting it's a deliberate racist act - but perhaps the architects should be checking their library of 'clip-art' is a bit more multi-cultural - before the Daily Mail latches on. Oh wait, they'd probably like that.

FCC TL Fleet news

*The 319 refurbishment plan started on Monday with the second unit going on 24th August.
*Southern have agreed to extended the deadline for the 377/2 so FCC can have some spare for maintance
*The final 377/5 is due in november
*On the subject of 377512/513/506/516, I'm told they "should be with us fairly soon"

Minor news but thought you'd like to hear it anyway.

510 was on BO603 or BO604 by itself yesterday, considering 13 units are on our patch ((un)lucky) for some) I'm slightly surprised the 0854 BDM-BTN was shortformed. Certain St Albans pax were lucky to get on at all, but at least the doors behaved at StP despite the driver warning us beforehand - 'it's something to do with Global Positioning apparently' (that and his tone brought about many a chuckle).

Heading back, BO608/609 were filled by 511+501 on the 1737 BTN-BDM - a short door delay at StP but nothing out of the ordinary. Before departure the driver announced a revised calling pattern of 'ST ALBANS, LUTON, BEDFORD' several times, I didn't know why because we were only 2 down. After getting off at St Albans it was announced that the 'self-dispatch equipment' (i.e. the DOO cameras) were faulty (so they had to rely on assisted dispatch).

But if an Electrostar can be dispatched by bat and flag (I've seen it before), why wasn't Luton Airport Parkway included? After all they have platform staff for HSTs (and yes I know we discussed this at length several months ago).

How many & which 377/2s are still with FCC? I was slightly surprised to see 207 and 208 at Kentish Town this morning, although MB's second point above explains it.

Er, I can't quite believe this but it was shorted formed due to stupid planning. We all know about the 11 377 limit placed on FCC by NR? Well yesterday they decided to allow the 'odd' diagram 605 to be run by a 319. Well normally this means only 10 377s out. But yesterday they decided to have a short form instead and only use one 377. as a matter of fact it was 377511 running around solo in diagram 608. 609 was allocated to 377501 even tho it didnt run.

Certain St Albans pax were lucky to get on at all, but at least the doors behaved at StP despite the driver warning us beforehand - 'it's something to do with Global Positioning apparently' (that and his tone brought about many a chuckle).

Hmm that drivers not understood his briefing about the beacons.......

Hmmm this is an interesting point. The Electrostar aren't supposed to be dispatched with DOO due to the fact the cab isn't set up for the driver too look back. There isn't anything to stop the dispatcher working by the cab door if the driver agrees.

That said some drivers may work to this rules, others may be ok with it. It could also be down to the fact that when you saw it the driver had a steady connection from his driving unit but not a behind unit. But the one you were on he had an intermittant pictures of the cameras so he could rely on seeing staff. Also note the 377s have to be dispatched by bat and flag unlike the 377s which can be done by lamp. Saying that was it light when you were on the train yesterday as this may be a factor?

Yesterday 377510 was on diagram 603 and its partner diagram 604 was filled by 377507.

Note that today 377505 was going around in full livery. This leaves 377507/509/510 to be done.

Also today saw all four 377/2 working on the following diagrams

603 - 377209
611 - 377213
614 - 377207
615 - 377208

This means 377510 and/or 377507 was at cauldwell all day and may well be in service this week in livery. After last week I wouldn't be surprised to see both in livery!

**UPDATE**

Just heard fron Iain of Southern Railways Yahoo group that a 377/5 is going to Milton Keynes in the daytime tomorrow and friday. No info on paths or times but unique. Shame Im working till 1500 or Id go up there and take some shots!

Todays 377's ran as this today

601 377207
602 377208
603 377502
604 377213
608 377511
609 377508
610 377510
611 377507
612 377505
613 377501
614 377504
615 377509

Note whats different? Theres 12 diagrams here filled by 377's. It seems the upgrading of the BML is complete ahead of the 20th (Thursday) enabling FCC to run more 377 trips.

Also the delivery of the 10th 377/5, unit 377512 means we may be seeing more 377 jounery of the 15 possible diagrams. With only 377509 left as the 'black sheep' in an unliveried condition, maybe this week will see all the units in full FCC livery.

**UPDATE**

377512 made its passenger debut yesterday on diagram 606. Looking very shiney but without FCC branding. Seems 377207/208 broke down as well and lead to the Ashford International being cancelled.

Minor update again and is this coming all me?

*319374 went to Wolverton on the 20/08 for refurishment.

* The current MPC of the 377's on Thameslink is a lowly 6,000! Thats a mixture of the 377/5 and the borrowed 377/2. Not a great figure when you consider the 37 350/2 Desiro's (delivered in 8 months compare to 14 in 8 months for Bombardier and the 377/5) is running at 12,000 with recent figures closer to 20,000.

*377520 is currently on its way to Selhurst to join 377513/506/516 for comissioning runs. This is the 3rd unit this month. At this rate (3 per month as the last two months have seen) the November date is look about right as 9 units (377503/514/515/517/518/519/521/522/523) are still to arrive.

Arent the 350/2s AC only? I would imagine that would be a far easier project. How do the 319s compare to the 320s?

I mentioned the 350/2 because Siemens wants to do a dual voltage for the new Thameslink stock where as Bombarbier is offering the Electrostar Mark 2. In this case the figures will show they have made one fleet work ok. Plus the fact they can deliver a fleet quicker than Bombarbier, something |i bet the bid teams are looking at after the 377/5 mess.

And to be honest the changeover in the 378 is better than the 377/5. Alot better.

Forgive my ignorance, but are FCC running 377s on weekends yet?

No. The diagrams I posted still hold true until 15th october. Im on the look out for new diagrams and will update everyone when things change. I wouldn't expect to see 377/5 at weekends until the whole fleet is up and running, ie Decmember at the earliest. And even then it may only be on weekends when a service is operating in the Core.

**Update**

Have been informed 377513 is booked to move to Cauldwell tomorrow leaving Selhurst around 1132.

Cheers to Richard for ModernEMU to the gen.

Wait, I don't quite get what the diagram numbers are.
Would you be able to explain?
