who is applying these logos

Till recently 700129 had the logos placed far too low on the bodyside although I believe this is now rectified

However 700133 in that video has the logos correct then one missing and then too low down!

You can also see in that video the new carriages that are to be added to the 8 car trains in the future, as a new open plan design with maximum standing room and the ability for people to stand right up to the edges. :)

Noticed on both monday and tuesday that the 700 stock coming into Littlehampton in the evenings having their windows badly etched. Wonder if this is due to them now being on the wild west, or something else?

I've noticed a lot of this too. It started long before they started going to Littlehampton. It's usually in first class too.

Likewise mirror etching.

London Underground used to have the interior panels (and doors) etched a lot. I assume the paint was very easy to scrape off, and a light grey panel with black underneath really stands out.

I can't recall seeing this so much of late. Perhaps I've become used to it, or they managed to find a way to reduce the impact?

I’m not 100% sure, but I think a lot of interior decor, doors in particular, is now actually adhesive. So if it gets etched all they do is pull of the adhesive and replace with new. I couldn’t say how widespread this is, but it certainly applies to at least some extent - eg on the recently refreshed 95 stock.

That might be it. Repair it quick and sooner or later people give up.

I wonder what the contract with Siemens says about vandalism, in terms of what they put out each day.

Just a quick question about the roof mounted spotlights on the pantograph coaches.

I understand why these would be swithched on to monitor the pantograph/OHLE whilst running on AC but is there a reason why they are permanently on, even when running on DC?

Thanks

It's come up a couple of times - as I understand it, issues have been caused when trying to raise pantographs after something falls into the well while running on 3rd rail. Having the camera/spotlight on permanently means this can be traced back to find a cause.

Thank you. I did search the thread but couldn't find anything.

I has always assumed that the "doors will open automatically at the next station" message broadcast for all the core stations really meant "the driver's going to open the doors" but I notice that during the current Bedford/St Pancras only service where the fast trains terminate on platform B at STP, the message is still broadcast but the doors don't open automatically! Is this some less than intelligent automation whereby the the doors really do open automatically once the driver has released them but only on the "normal" side?

I assumed it was controlled by a balise (like the pan dropping at City Thameslink). I’m pretty sure they don’t open automatically in the Blackfriars bays (despite the announcement still being made!)

The Driver 'releases' the doors but they open automatically.

They open automatically in the bays too.

I apologise for not scanning all 9,000 posts for the answer but are the 717s following on from the 700 order. It's unusual to have not seen any photos of them under construction or test with Siemans so close to their introduction.

I believe that they are, but you only tend to see photos of the TOC/Rosco wants to publicise them. The only photo I've seen of anything 717 related (although I've also seen them referred to as 713s in Siemens' publicity) is a mock-up of the front end. I think I linked it in their dedicated thread.

How different are the 717s to the 700s in terms of testing and driver training? How extensively they will have to be tested could decide whether they enter service this year, but to be honest I think it's unlikely.

Off the top of my head, the plan was always for them to enter service this year.

Yep, original plan was first unit in passenger service May 2018, 313s gone by December 2018. AFAIK, we are approximately running a year behind these targets. Cause of the delay rumoured to be gauging issues on the Moorgate branch among other things.
