Been reported elsewhere that Sunday is the last day of 387s on TL, that must mean more 700 Diagrams are coming surely?

Indeed they are and here they are. I won't be posting 12 car diagrams after this for awhile as they are pretty settled unless something changes.

Only opening four doors is the emergency release as the train knows its not it the right place and IIRC that's regarless of the stopping place.

Shouldn't that read. The train thinks it's in the wrong place but isn't.

I had a look through the database and some of the stations listed have the wrong platform lengths listed. Could that be part of the problem ?

From what I understand, it's the trains not stopping in the correct "window" (albeit driver error, infrastructure error, programming error), and thus the train not releasing the doors as it doesn't know where it is.

I wish there was more 1st class provisioning for people who choose to pay extra.

In the core, it's very accurate and reliant on using its brains a bit more. Outside the core is different. So far nobody has been able to confirm which system it's using and why its going wrong. If the database is wrong then it needs updating rather than ignoring it and pretending it doesn't happen.

Clearly there is something wrong and an issue where the train is indeed stopped on the right platform and at the right mark but doesn't know it's in the right place.

Effectively the safety system is kicking in when it shouldn't.

Lessons should have been learnt from the other SDO Systems on various other units. It's a cop out just to say other units make the same mistakes and have the same issues. It shouldn't happen and should be an issue they need to resolve.

If the PIS code on a diagram is not recognised by the unit (i.e if it's not in the database) then the unit will also default to opening the doors only on 4 coaches.

That assumes that those in first class are paying extra! I reckon it's fewer than 10% on the north side.

I've never seen a genuine first class section full on TL under 'normal' conditions - do you want more than one seat each?

Eh? If you mean a genuine first class section being one that is actually first class, and not declassified, and by 'full' you mean every seat taken, I see it almost every morning.

What stations are causing you issues!

There is a clear written issued notice in what to do if the doors default to 4 or 8 coaches, you use the masdo list and select the correct station and correct platform.

If you are talking about why some stations are 7 or 7 1/2 coaches , that is to do with signal sighting and stopping a little further back.

Thank you 377/5 for this most informative update. It really is appreciated. Just to check, are these just M - F diagrams and if so, are there any Sat/Sun diagrams anywhere?

Will new Thames link logos ever be fitted to the 700s or is a revised livery planned ? Perhaps to coincide with London bridge completion ?

Can't imagine grey on grey

Why add your new logo to your newest fleet of trains? (Sarcasm intended!)

I get that there was a contract to fit the current vinyls, but it beggars belief that they're not being changed in the UK during routine maintenance and someone didn't go to Siemens and say 'hey, we'd like to ship you xxx new vinyls to replace the ones you've got, please fit these instead'.

I know it's the railway and things work in special ways, but for trains still coming off the production line it seems odd they're getting an obsolete logo.

But then again, I also believe the new logo is crap and don't see why GTR changed it so soon anyway.

It is bizarre . I believe they get someone from.outside to do the branding...... crazy how there is no one qualified at depots to do it themselves! Its a management contract so branding/self promotion is obviously no important...its just odd that new units are still being delivered with the old branding!!! Any news on tables?! Lol

377501 still has old Thameslink logos too.

Weekday diagrams. Weekend diagrams change pretty much every weekend (especially at the moment) so its a nightmare to try and do them. Its about 6 times as much work that I can't really most weeks.

Generaly there should be about 8x 12 car and and every increasing amout of 8 cars.

Vinyls were altered to the current (old for Thameslink) logo as part of the contract for the 700s. The cost of changing it to a new one is excessive so needs the DfT to authorise it. Currently we are still awaiting the sign off of wifi and seat back tables so things like the logo are at the back of the queue right now (and for good reasons, much more important things to sort out).

Which demonstrates exactly how inept GTR management are. Why change a logo when it 1. Isn't important. 2. Passengers don't care. (As they get no benefit from it) 3. It is too complex anyway.

a decent company would focus on running trains rather than redesigning logos.

Yes, I think the easiest solution was not to change the logo at all. The current one (sorry, old one) was just fine. Given the link up of TL and GN, it made sense for there to be similarities.

Southern is different as it didn't change operator/name.

'T/' on social media just looks silly IMO. I know liking any logo is subjective, but I think the new one looks incredibly basic and done on the cheap (but I know that they often are anything but).

Image is everything to a company (usually...) so a logo/identity is important. Passengers can identify with a logo. How is the Thameslink or Thameslink/ logo too complex?

I would agree that running trains is more important than redesigning a logo

The logo will not have impacted the railway operation in any meaningful way. The member or members of staff involved are unlikely to have influenced day to day operation while dealing with this marketing project.

When I was referring to complexity- I was meaning the act of getting it the trains rather than the logo itself. With changes to contracts etc.

Image is everything to a company (usually...) so a logo/identity is important. Passengers can identify with a logo. How is the Thameslink or Thameslink/ logo too complex?
a decent company would focus on running trains rather than redesigning logos.
I would agree that running trains is more important than redesigning a logo
When companies rebrand, they generally plan it to make it as quick and easy as possible. Thus, if you're going to rebrand a website, social media etc, then you're also going to have a plan for posters on stations, platforms, signs at stations (e.g. St Pancras with TOC logos) and of course on the side of trains.

If you can't do all of that, why change then?

As I said, why change at all? What was wrong with the already new logo? It's an expense for GTR that they wouldn't get back from the DfT so I see no reason for it.

The fact I don't think anything of the new logo might be clouding my judgement a little, but I don't really think so. Even if I liked the new logo, I'd say the same about the odd way of introducing it and how it works when used in different ways. For example 'T/' as an avatar. Whoever came up with that?

The logo will not have impacted the railway operation in any meaningful way. The member or members of staff involved are unlikely to have influenced day to day operation while dealing with this marketing project.

Indeed. I don't think the average passenger cares either way, but there's definitely been a cost to change the logo and everything that goes with it - either now or in the future when the 700s will have all the branding inside and out changed. Unnecessarily IMO.

If the 700s had introduced the new logo and the old trains had the old logo until they went, I could have understood the logic of a new logo (just). These are, after all, the trains we've been patiently waiting for - unlike the temporary (and in use for longer than originally intended) 377/387s.

If it's GoVia that's wanting the logo change, why are they not paying it themselves out of the profits they make?
They surely can't be expecting the DfT to pay for their change of mind.
If it's DfT driven, that's a different ball game.

What profits are those? GTR is losing its parent company money. It it's costing Govia more to run then it's paid by the DfT. All profits go to DfT who also control non day to day costs.

Oh and GTR is supposed to strengthen the Thameslink brand by contract hence the change from the bid logo to the current one (focusing on being a link that people will be using daily). It's just not allowed to spend any money doing that without DfT permission.

So what are they paid to run the contract then? Magic beans?

Maybe the should do the decent thing and walk away. Give us users the best thing they can a company that can get the best out of their staff and hence provide us with a decent service. Rebranding isn't going to strengthen the brand. Not having a repeat of last Sunday will. But the relationship between management and staff is so poor that isn't going to happen while GTR are still in charge.

Oh well back to class 700s after my little rant.

They are being paid but the running cost (ie train rental, staff costs) are more than GTR relieves.

You make have an attitude like that but doesn't change the facts here. And the figures have been given on this forum multiple times before.

In other words, they've stuffed the contract, but can afford to pay for full page spreads in national newspapers.

There's only one poster with an attitude problem on this thread.
I suggest you calm down, it's not good for your blood pressure.

Actually my point kind of went the other way, I was suggesting that a Mr/Miss logo designer isn't going to be the person to "fix" GTR in a heartbeat because that isn't their day job when they aren't designing logos. Why should they be forbidden from rebranding because their management is lacking in some areas? (Though I agree that the timing seems odd regardless)
