I had my first journey on the Class 700 last Tuesday, and I loved it! 700 115 was the unit I had, on 2W19 Bedford to Gatwick Airport and because all the Caterham trains were delayed, I decided to board "the future of rail travel" to Purley. It was so cold last week, so when I boarded, it felt really warm and cosy onboard. I love the new PIS, and I think it should be rolled out on to more new trains coming into service. Bit suprised they do not have power sockets onboard, but I'm under the impression they will be retrofitted in due course, as well as fitting WiFi onboard. When we approached Purley, I really didn't want to get off, but I had to, otherwise I would have received a fine as my oyster isn't valid at Gatwick Airport!

Then today, my second ride on the 700's came courtesy of 700 104 on the same train I took last week (2W19). I missed two Caterham trains just to get this, as it was my only opportunity to get it, and also down the fact the train behind it was a Caterham service anyway. I went in to First Class while I could, and tried out the seats. They are slightly more comfortable than the Fainsa seats in Standard Class, but what I didn't like was the gap in the doorway to Standard Class, but somehow, it did seem a lot quieter in there.

Anyway, the Class 700's are great units, but of course for me, nothing is better than your good old 455 ;)

Also, there was a 319 on 1W15 Bedford to Brighton today. Didn't catch the front unit but on the rear was 319421. Was quite surprised as I thought Bedford to Brighton was all 377/387/700.

Someone didn't enable the balise?

The boards were in the wrong place?

Nothing to do with train, station/infrastructure or driver.

Next week sees the increase to 18 diagrams with 407 diagram having driver training moves included (likely for SE drivers as Orpington driver driver quite a few Thameslink service).

Here are the diagrams, note some of the older ones have changed.

Theyre sure taking over the network fast
I wonder if people are still excited about them as they were just before they were introduced into service

Next time, go to the back of the train (it's fun to walk through if you can't do it on the platform) and enjoy the declassified first class section that has power points and tables.

That's the back of the train in direction of travel btw.

What percentage of the existing diagrams is this now, please?

Its

36x 319 (144 carriages)
22x 377 (TL only) (88 carriages)
6x 387 (24 carriages)
7x 700/0 (56 carriages)
11x 700/1 (132 carriages)

Its hard to get a % as each 700/0 is two diagrams of the other fleets and some of the 700/1 are three diagrams (others are increased capacity as it used to be 4 peak 12 cars a day on TL and now is 11).

But if you go off carriages then from a total of 444 carriages, 700 are 188 carriages or 42% of carriages from Monday.

What Class 319's are currently stood down?
Platform 5's 2017 EMU pocket book has 52 in use with TL so 12 more have been stood down since it was printed, which ones?

377/5's numbers are diagrams, rather than sets in the fleet. It could thus still be 52 units in the fleet for 36 diagrams, but probably is a lower number.

Not strictly this thread I know, but across GTR more generally, does anybody know if 313055 has been or is to be returned to service?

Its...

41 units for 36 319 diagrams^
24 units 22 377
9 units for 6 387
9 units 7x 700/0
15* units 11x 700/1

^ Includes the 6x 319s leased by Southeastern as they are one fleet diagram wise
* Currently 110 is on ETCS/ATO testing

Believe 313055 is still out last time I checked.

The 0606 from Brighton to Bedford was cancelled this morning - it was a 700 yesterday was it a 700 that failed today?

So what exactly does that leave?

Were they cancelled due to a change in wind direction? Perhaps due to interstellar winds? Someone looked at it funny? [emoji14]

Either some other member of staff presumably, possibly signaling control staff (unless they are covered by 'infrastructure', staff at GTR (but not the driver) or the staff of another TOC, or another train (of any TOC) as these possibilities are not mentioned. It could of course be the wind, solar, interstellar or otherwise... :D

Laying over between workings due to the issues on the Quarry Line - presumably run out of other refuge sidings to use.

Interesting. Not seen this done here before. Presumably 50 minutes spent station the Up St Helier between Wimbledon Chase and Wimbledon looking at the link.

Oi - we were up to 60.9% punctuality last week. I doubt the 'Nunhead' issue will happen again anyway. :p

Can someone kindly point me to the direction of the Class 707 thread? If there isnt one maybe this threads title can be changed?
On the subject of desiro class 700s and 707s, the first 707 will be delivered tonight to Clapham Yard. I havent seen this mentioned anywhere else.

Thanks
Putting Class 707 and searching for threads does not show it for me.

vBulletin has never been great for searching. Better to do it in the URL bar of your browser. On Chrome, just use "www.railforums.uk <search terms>" and you can usually find anything very easily, and without the need to wait for trying different terms.

Will be interesting when the 700s arrive on GN, the commuters are constantly complaining about the reduced number of seats on the 387s, they'll faint when a 700 turns up..!

Rumours internally are that it is to be returned to service as we literally can't spare having the unit out of service for the next couple of years. With the number of short forms it's not a major surprise, although it probably is to those who expected it to become a bit of a Christmas Tree at Hornsey, but as said, it's just rumours so that may still happen.

.

I guess the benefits are still not fully coming through. The positive can't be disputed.

1. Majority of services will be 12 car vice 8. (I know 12 car ones exist already but still lots of 8)
2. Crush loading better,
3. The days of 4 car trains are over big relief at the weekend.

I am a big critic of the capability reduction of the 387s. Just be interested once they start running if people in Stevenage and further north will pick the 12 cars to give the space on the 8s to those that have no choice. A lot of people take the slower service because they get a seat. We shall see.

1. Majority of services will be 12 car vice 8.

I doubt it.

The majority of the 700s are 8-car, not 12. My strong suspicion is the 8-cars will do the majority of services on the GN side. I'm not saying there won't be some 12-cars but I bet they'll be in the minority.
