Anecdotally, there's still a fair few 319s running around considering the withdrawl date is so soon. I saw at least three units going through Herne Hill on Sutton Loop services today.

700s are increasingly making their presence felt on the Sevenoakes run...

I noted this also when out bashing last week, rode a 319 into Farringdon and observed at least 5 more 8 coach sets flying around whilst wating at City TL/Blackfryers

Typical. Come up to get a couple more 700s and there's an all line block at Hendon. Lineside fire.

Nice, right on the start of the evening peak!

I got a 319 Northbound. It was meant to terminate at West Hampstead, but instead once it got to Kentish Town the juice was completely turned off!

I wonder how the 700s fare during a juice cut? Didn't I read here recently they've a battery backup but if depleted can't move until they're recharged?

I was under the impression that it's the Crossrail Class 345 which has a battery backup, not the Class 700s.

Enjoy them (is that the right word!?) while they last!

Agreed - having travelled on them since new ...keep seeing plenty of them but their days are numbered and must get some shots before they go.

Will GTR run a salutory special before they go ?

I believe GTR's trainspotting department is looking to do something along the lines of previous BLS siding sniffing specials, but don't know anything more than its an idea...

Curious things- although there's no plans, as far as I know, for any Thameslink service to go past Cambridge North, the Class 700 stopping markers have been put in at Ely.

I imagine it is just future-proofing, so that if necessary a Class 700 could run a KGX-Ely peak extra or something. Down here on the hertford loop, we have got SDO stop boards for 8 car Class 387 formations, that we are very unlikely to ever see in passenger service.

anyone know when drivers will learn the cambridge route... will have to be soon I would have thought although still up in the air regarding which depot covers the work etc

will be a brilliant new service when it launches

I'd keep Sunday 4th June free in your diary
and
keep an eye on the Branch Line Society website http://www.branchline.org.uk/events.php
and
keep the windows closed where necessary
for the mother of all goodbyes

It would be nice to see a unit returned to its original Network SouthEast livery but the days of BR are long gone and I very much doubt this will ever happen

Just realised, why is all of this in a 700 thread !?

Because it's one of the classes they're replacing? ;)

I agree with the NSE idea, it was a nice livery. I still to this day use a NSE ticket wallet. (I got rid of a whole box many years ago, and seeing their auction price these days I regret it! But I digress...)

Once enough Southeastern Drivers sign them given the entire weekend service uses SE crews.

How's that going? I've seen plenty of telltale SE blue uniforms in the cab of a 319, but only TL greys in the cockpits of the 700 at Bromley.

What I've also noticed is that because the dispatch at BMS is still done by platform stuff, they baton to the driver standing in front of the 700 as opposed to by the side cab window like all other stock.

Is there some safety, efficiency or other operational reason why the RA signal has to be observed through the front window rather than through the side window?

It's going slowly but surely.

Several SE DIs have been trained on 700s over the last few months and are now training Link 1 SE drivers at the relevant depot.

There's a lot of other training taking place (SE trainee drivers, route refreshers for existing drivers etc.) which has to fit around it.

New, exclusively 700, GTR work diagrams for SE drivers are due to come online over the next few weeks, I believe.

Don't forget, there is a driver's side door, with a window. That's what they use on the Networkers and Electrostars.
.

Don't forget - the 700s have a central driving position well forward of the doors. It is not at all straightforward to look out of the driver's door window without leaving the seat.

(And electrostars have a driver's window on the driver's side).
