Thames Clipper from Barking Riverside.

I intend to take a wee journey on the above tomorrow. Is there a hop on hop off type of ticket that would allow me to explore the various stops? I'm interested in the eastern section for this trip.

Any worthwhile pubs (with or without food options) near the stops?

The 07:00 fast service from the Waverley to King's Cross was cancelled yesterday, so I got the stopper. However, there was a two hour gap in service on the Thames Clipper at Barking between 12:10 & 14:10 and I was never going to make the 12:10.

I therefore restricted myself to the short crossing to Woolwich Pier for £4.10. No time to sample the delights of the on board service.

Better luck next time.

That’s a pity. Standing on the open back platform and enjoying the speed & thrash east of Tower Bridge is a favourite thing of mine to do in London.

Agreed. Many moons ago I used to use it daily to get between Blackfriars and Canary Wharf for work. Coffee on the way in; bottle of beer on the way back. Love the bit east of Tower Bridge when they put their foot down

I took the Thames Clipper for the first time at the weekend between Millbank and Blackfriars and found it an ordeal. Maybe because it mainly is a busy tourist route with next to no available seating outside, and awfully expensive. Plus the zigzagging between banks doesn't make for a smooth journey.

Going further eastwards seems a lot more pleasant though by the sounds of it.

Maybe because it mainly is a busy tourist route with next to no available seating outside, and awfully expensive. Plus the zigzagging between banks doesn't make for a smooth journey.

Going further eastwards seems a lot more pleasant though by the sounds of it.

Yes. From about the Police mooring towards Tower Bridge and westwards, its a tottering slow speed area and no different to any other boat on the Thames. The other bit eastwards has nothing to match it, unless you want a soaking on one of the various rib experiences.

West of Tower Bridge (to be exact, roughly where the police pontoon is) it is subject to the same speed limit as all the other river traffic. And it's the busiest on that stretch with tourists. So yes, it is slow.

I really enjoy the stretch between Barking and North Greenwich, the boat gives it full beans, and you also get a really good close look at the Thames Barrier. It's normally pretty quiet if you start at the Barking end, so you'd normally manage to get an outside seat. Sometimes I'll stay on it but I normally bail at North Greenwich when it starts to fill up with tourists.

Before we relocated to Cumbria a trip on the the Thames Clipper was one of our favourite days out. It's great when they really put the throttle down.
