I see Ebbw Vale to Newport has been cancelled today due to more trains than usual needing repairs. Is this because 150s are covering on Valley Lines or Main Line or both?

I noticed there are a few Sprinters on Maesteg/Cheltenham/Ebbw Vale but normally thats not enough to cancel the Newport-Ebbw Vale?

There’s a superficial shortage on both sides this morning, there are various sets out of action requiring work.
They’ve let the 150’s go beyond recognition in many areas, and the new fleet just isn’t where it should be. I can see a serious problem with cancellations in the coming weeks and months ahead.

Canton's wheel lathe too is busted so some units are tucked up in the back of Canton. The majority of the MK4 fleet is currently not working either so 197s have been taken from there, FLIRTs needing tyre turning aren't able to be on the valleys so more 150s need to cover and some Sprinters will be waiting at Canton for the wheel lathe too!

It's not going well!

Its a real shame things are not going well at the moment as for the first 3 months of this year TFW have had quite a good run in terms of MK4 and 197 being available.

@tfw756rider there are 19 class 150s still with TfW. All 30 153s are still leased but I don’t know which units are in storage in Landore.
Thanks @158822.

@sd0733, would you kindly be up for telling us how many Active Travel sets and standalone 153s have been service recently?
(each Active Travel set given in the answer would count as 2 153s, and each standalone 153 would of course count as 1 153)

Ill give it a go, it seems quite complicated at the moment!
Active Travels are easy, 4 have been in service this week barring AT04 which hasnt been in use since 12th Jan, half is at Crewe and the AT vehicle at Canton, and AT06 out of use at Canton since 29th March

Of the rest it looks like the current status is:
153312 on paper spare AT set vehicle but at Landore long term
153320 Stored at Landore
153323 In service
153325 In service
153329 at Canton since 2nd Feb
153333 Stored at Landore
153361 In Service
153367 At Landore potential to return to service
153369 At Canton since January
153906 In service
153909 On service
153910 At Landore potential to return to service
153913 At Landore potential to return to service
153914 In service
153921 At Landore potential to return to service
153922 Stored at Landore
153926 Stored at Landore
153935 At Canton since 6th March

What are the reasons for at04 and at06 being out of use.

FYI this information can be easily found on Train Mapper
What's that?
It’s an App. There is a thread on here somewhere about it, not sure where

It seems there are currently 4 AT sets to cover 4 diagrams. So no surprise the 150s and non AT 153s cover regularly. Also the AT sets seems to regularly appear on Cheltenham/Swanline and other services vice 150s or 197s.

I think at the moment there are no booked workings for the 153s, they are just covering as and where needed but from the May timetable there will be booked workings hence more coming back into service.

153333 and 153910 back out of store and working the Heart of Wales today. The route has seen maybe 50% 150 substitution in recent weeks, at a guess. I'm planning a HoW end to end next month and was very much hoping for 153s over a 150!

What's the reason that 153s are returning to service (after moving them to Landore)? Is it purely the additional services in North Wales (demanding more 197s) and then the lack of cascade down the south (from the 398s)?
Or it is something else like poor availability of the Mk4s/197s, maybe something I'm missing? Thank you!

I think it is because during the May timetable change there will be more 153s needed in South Wales due to extra 197s needed in the North for the extra services along the North Wales Coast. Also I think we are losing some 150s that do main line work for the to go onto the Valleys so will be replaced by pairs of 153s.

Ive noticed the Heart of Wales currently gets at least 1 x 150 so perhaps the AT 153s have poor availability stiill? 197s seems quite good at the moment.

Can anyone confirm what happened with the Marches collision victims please ?
IIRC a couple of untis were loaned from northern for a while, then two of the lesser damaged cars reappeared mismatched ? Maybe 150279 ? Have the rest of the cars been repaired and reinstated ? IIRC 150242 was the other ?

TIA

I'm pretty sure that 150279 and 150242 were put back into service with each unit having one vehicle originally from itself and the other vehicle originally from the other unit, but someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct. 150242 has 52242 & 57279, 150279 has 52279 & 52242.

Looking at diagramming info likely to be one on the below workings in west wales.

0541 carmarthen to fishguard
Clarbeston - fishguard shuttle
0956 from carmarthen
1040 tenby to carmarthen
1355 to tenby
1439 to carmarthen
1545 carmarthen to milford haven
1655 milford to cardiff

apologies i have not yet found the inbound working and these can of course also be class 150s. Although that does seem unlikely.
