TFW WiFi question

Hi, I don't know where to put this but hopefully this is right. I want to know if the on train WiFi onboard TFW would cope with watching a programme (Final Score football) live on iPlayer (or at least a part of it) ? Thank you

I would say probably not, I believe they have a block on certain streaming websites like YouTube (could be misremembering though). Either way, it shouldn't cope too well, you're probably best using mobile data if you have enough.

Don't rely on their charging points either, unless they have been vastly improved in the last couple of months. Hardly ever working in my experience.

No TOC provides fast enough WiFi for streaming. Some even block video streaming.

As a general rule, HD video streaming is generally 1.25 megabytes per second (10mbps but that is in bits). I'm not familiar with how good TfW WiFi is or how the mobile networks are around there.

The charging points are iffy at best - 150s are generally good but the rest well good luck! I only use my Three Data never use their wifi. However, if you are using the Iplayer, why not download to your device to watch offline? The signal can be so unpredictable streaming is a waste of time except for short bursts anyway!

I think the OP wants to watch the show live, not download it and watch it after it is broadcast. I assume they are traveling at the same time as it is being shown on tv/iPlayer.

Yeah that was the idea. 1.25MB per second is what, 75 per minute? So for an hour it's 4.5GB? That is a lot.

How much less is SD streaming, or indeed radio streaming? As you can tell this isn't something I've thought much about before!

On train wifi is for things like emails, basic web browsing etc, not watching videos.

Yup on train WiFi is for basic stuff. You need an unlimited data plan really and reliant on a signal. That is 50/50 really.

TFW only guarantee speeds above one megabit. They also had at one point (and I think it's still there) a data cap of about a hundred meg before they restrict your download speeds.
