yes, I was on a rammed 150213 with an ex-railway family member from Manchester Piccadilly to Shrewsbury (towards Cardiff Central) and we were not impressed. It was actually struggling to get from 74mph to 75mph, it was carrying that much weight.

Chrysalis Rail is the company at Landore depot doing the work for ScotRail :) Those are the longest distance movements I know of at the moment, with the units being in all 3 GB constituent countries on the same day!

There were actually 2 Scotrail 156s on the Marches today. The one you mentioned and one traveling the other direction a few hours earlier. Lots of spotters around too as there was a steam train passing through ah doubtless lots of photos/videos will be appearing shortly online.

That doesn't sound too bad going! Is that a mistype perhaps? A loss of only 1mph would more likely be down to the difference in whatever device you used to record and the drivers speedometer.

That said,with all the hills along the route there are plenty of places between Manchester and Cardiff where even a 175 can't reach 75, never mind a 150.

The 150s vary. Some are very sluggish, others only lose the dd minute here and there. I had one last year on the 1830 Manchester to Cardiff. It was 30 late from Crewe (nothing to do with it being a 150) and actually clawed back half the delay by the time it got to Cardiff!

This one lost more and more time and was quite late by the time it finally arrived in Cardiff (I kept following it on realtimetrains after I got off)

175s can do 100mph on the WCML but Newport to Crewe they do 90mph

Sorry, my previous post was a rather poor way of asking if you happened to be able to point me at the source. I had a very quick look through my Modern Railways pile but can't find the right issue. Does anybody know if the requirement to add capacity if needed is there for all to see in any of the franchise agreement documents that have beenn made public? Assuming it's there, I'd be interested to see how it is worded (eg. under what circumstances are they required to add more stock?)

I know, I work the route regularly :) my point was some of the hills on the route are too steep for the trains used to reach their top speed, regardless of the speed limit (line speed) for that part of the line. Between Shrewsbury and Church Stretton for example, a 175 won't get above 75 (and even that's a struggle in places) and a 150 won't get over about 65. The line speed is 90 in places but it's not actually possible to achieve with the rolling stock used.

No more than any other day. The Premier Service doesn't operate at weekends and the Manchester set can catch up on Maintenance.
They are used on occasions for events such as Rugby. Also, to avoid Higher (LHCS) Track Access Charges

I don't believe that TfW have been granted the dispensation to continue using Pacers into 2020, and that it would be in a few days' time.

What happens then if dispensation has not been granted and TfW continue to use them for the sake of continuing to run the services they provide?

Better to run the trains with whatever they've got until further notice,than cancel the many services they already run that utilise the Pacers and LHS trains.

Government interference has caused this impending mess.
The PRM laws for trains should only have been made law for new trains.
As it is,most operators now have to mod their own trains by law or....buy a new fleet of trains!
Astonishing how we let the government interfere.I thought the railways were privatised.
As long as all trains are safe to use and turn up on time,who cares about the toilets.

@Chris217 PRM is more than toilets, and I believe it's fines and Network Rail doing whatever they can to avoid them running on their tracks.
