The 143s were put to one side when the Timetable was reduced on January 25th resulting in a lower requirement due to COVID. There seems to be a resumption of their use as from today with an increase in Cardiff Valley services.

143616 was out today with 150264

This video appears to be one of the last showing the 142 pacers on the Valley Lines.

I didn't realise they were still being used after December, so I was surprised to see one in Aberdare this morning at around 8:40. Terrible photo but managed to quickly take this as I was drove past (in the passengers seat of course!)

They will be used until May although nothing confirmed beyond the derogation end date in May as yet. If TfW can't get some of the 769's and 230's in service then there could be a good case to extend Pacers further.

They were being used attached to PRM units up until the COVID reduced Timetable started on January 25th when they were put to one side. On March 15th TFW increased the Cardiff Valley service (nowhere else) to the pre January 25th level requiring a very limited number of 143s to return to service

Thanks for the explanation! Another piece of news that went total under the radar for me was the the rail network has effectively been re-nationalised!

it could be if they pulled a 143 up on a 153 then work every service after whichever it missed with the 143 attached

TFW have to operate many other routes than the Pembroke Dock Branch. The 143s shouldn't even be working but have dispensation and are confined to the Cardiff Valleys and only go out when required.

honestly i didnt know of that rule personally the rule is stupid but then im digressing alot now but if its on a prm vehicle it shouldnt matter where it is if it has clearance and trained drivers but hayho

What's your source for this information? The 143s going is very much dependant on having all 9 of TfW's 769s available for passenger service, with enough staff also trained to operate them. That doesn't seem at all likely to happen by 17th May at the moment (or even 31st May). So there are still many caveats to TfW being in a position to withdraw all of their 143s without capacity suffering.

I want the 143s gone ASAP, it's shameful TfW still need to keep them in service, but not at the expense of capacity, especially during this summer when no doubt the 143s will be needed on Barry Island services especially to help with social distancing. Unless of course someone can wave a magic wand and eliminate all of the issues with the 769s......
