Hi everyone,

I have recently been sent a letter due to my stupidity of not buying a ticket which led to me being reported. I have the letter from TIL stating that they will be prosecuting under RORA to which I looked on these forums to write a response. I apologised profusely and offered to pay for any chargers that have been created by myself.

I have the second letter but I am really unsure of what to do next. I really don't want this to go to court and get found guilty because I will soon be looking for employment.

I hope someone can help me out.
Ben.

Hi Ben,
How long after the initial letter did you recieve this reply. Did you pay for the actual fare? I recevied a similar letter asking for any mitigating circumstances that should be taken into consideration and I mentioned that despite what was said and how I behaved I paid the full fare and send them a copy of the receipt.
Would anybody be able to help and tell me whether that would be sufficient for an out of court settlement. From the beginning my intention was always to pay but in a moment of madness it was claimed that I did not intend to pay for the full fare but I paid the full fare after an apparent prosecution notice had been filled and I ripped it into pieces.

That`s slightly contradictory. Are you saying personally in a moment of madness (we all have them) or are you saying the train operating company feels you were trying to avoid payment? If you can give us a few more details. You say you paid the full fair but what did it say in the letter? Were they asking for a settlement? Just paying the full fare in this circumstance would not be adequate as the rail company would be looking to recoup their costs. This is normal. You should accept this as it will almost certainly get worse if it does get to court.

I think you may need to explain that a little further with a description of the full sequence of events. If one is handed an official document it doesn't seem wise to rip it up.
