Looks like this mornings MK4 service is starting at Port Talbot at 1051 rather than Swansea due to late arrival of in bound service according to RTT.

Saying its a late running service is stretching it a bit really as its ECS from Canton!

Not many out today. Seems like a few in needing repairs at once and one on an exam (how long does an A exam usually take?)

197104 and 67022+HD04 have swapped diagrams for this afternoon, with 197104 now allocated 1W96 and 67022+HD04 now allocated 1W63; otherwise, there'd be 2 sets at Holyhead tonight. Pending nothing else goes wrong between now and tomorrow, 67015+HD01 should do 1V91 etc.

1W11, 1W55, 1W57, 1W59, 1W65 all 197s today. The result being shortforms on other 197 diagrams. 1W63 would have been a 197 as well if it was not for the swap.

What on earth is happening?

2 sets stopped due to incidents
1 set stopped Wheel lathe
1 set stopped Exam
67015 flat batteries at Holyhead
So that set not out.

Back to 4 tomorrow
W11 diagram unit vice.

Are the Mk4s unlucky? Considering how few diagrams they do, having 2 out for incidents seems very high.

Is there any indication of how long it will take to have 5 sets available from the 7 again?

There is nearly always a set on one sort of Exam, so its effectively only 6 sets in service at any one time.
To have 3 stopped at the same time
With wheel sets issues / repairs
2 totally unplanned is bad luck.

HD03 moved for the 1st time in a month yesterday across Crewe,
After it’s repairs.
Now having a B exam to return it to service.

HD05 is on the wheel lathe at Crewe
Post exam requiring more work
Than 1st thought.

HD07 is being held waiting for
The wheel lathe after being damaged
Last Friday because of HD05.

Yesterday also had HD06 on A Exam
& 67015 not starting at Holyhead on HD01.

The whole fleet is really struggling at the moment.
A lot of the reasons has been waiting on the wheel lathe at Crewe which is being used for the entire 15x fleet and Mk4s. The last one goes on there tomorrow from the queue so all being well start of next week will be back to normal.

Theres a big shortage of units full stop with various routes shortformed and cancelled, shortages way above a couple covering Mk4s.

If someone wants to buy a new wheel lathe then they can have my vote on Thursday.

I was holding out for someone promising to buy 7 3-car and 7 2-car 197s to replace the Mk4s, but none of the leaflets I got were promising that.

I am nervously looking at 1W11 on Tuesday at the moment.

Cheers, at least that means 2 sets will be at Canton on Saturday evening.
Yes. Puts 2 available at Canton on Monday morning too, 3 at Crewe so that one can swap into the Holyhead start diagram to get 5 back in service.
