I passed Barton Hill yesterday and the HD08 coaches are still there. There was someone working on them 2 weeks ago, but couldn't see anyone yesterday.

Tuesday and for the rest of the week should then have HD02/04/05/06/07 as the service rakes.

67016+HD05 is now at Canton and is planned back out on 1W11 tomorrow.

67029+HD03 has got a couple of days to spare before it's exam starts so can re-enter service tomorrowand is booked on 1V31.

67014+HD07 are planned again on 1W13 but should have a loco swap at Canton in the afternoon with 67020 going out onto the PM Holyhead.

67010+HD04 should do the other Crewe start with 67013+HD06 coming from Holyhead and 67015+HD02, a word that can rarely be used in this thread, Spare at Crewe.

I'm planning an All Line Rover for February.
Does anyone know whether the 10.30 Manchester - Cardiff serves breakfast (first class), rather than lunch?
I haven't sampled TFW breakfast yet and am led to believe that it is now the best on UK service trains.

Does become a little messy, they need both a driver and a guard to prep, which obviously won’t be diagrammed if it’s adhoc for a 197 replacement, so they’ll need to be spare. It’ll also then have to be a diagram which doesn’t go to west wales, call at request stops or have Shrewsbury drivers, Chester guards/drivers etc on depending on which services as they don’t sign them. It’s perfectly possible for them to cover the odd service when in the right place (take the set covering 1W26 Cardiff to Crewe the other night) but even that had to have the request stops removed as they aren’t permitted to call there. It’s one of those.. probably more hassle than it’s worth scenarios and they’re better kept spare to cover failures of their own fleet.

As already covered in a few posts there's almost no out and back diagrams, especially from Crewe which would be any use. The regular one which often crops up as a substitute diagram is out of Holyhead doing a Cardiff, even then dodging request stops and depots that don't sign them is easier said than done.

In any case, having a spare set is extremely handy for crew training/refreshes on the depot. There's still a lot of new crews heading to TfW so the chance of getting time on depot is extremely useful and is partially why the diagrams are as they are with a set on Canton for several hours to facilitate depot time for the Cardiff based Crews.

Today at Crewe depot (13/1/25):

67029 connected to HD03

67017 connected to HD01 (B exam)

67010 connected to HD04 arrived from Manchester ECS.

No power provided to the set after 67020 went on. Canton couldn't accommodate 3 sets and Crewe already had a full compliment of 4 so something had to end up going to Holyhead.

It was 02/04/05/06/07 in service and 03 as spare.

06 was planned to swap so finishing in Crewe (which it now will anyway) to enable 67013 to come off and 67029 to go on.
Hopefully 07 does make it out but will depend if its repaired overnight.

67006 and 67007 are planned to swap as the rescue loco at Canton, 006 running light to Crewe and 007 heading to Canton.
