that’ll be 834, the one that’s woefully slow. If you just throw that one into notch 7 from a stand it’s a bit smoother, it doesn’t rev up like the rest and it pull away really smoothly...... until 26mph when it kicks you into 2nd gear!!

it's the one with the "new" (2015 Voith DIWARail) gearboxes rather than the overhauled original spec Voith T211 (...?) hydraulic transmissions of all other 158s (GB nationally, since a South West 158 got de-converted from its 172-style ZF boxes)

I've noticed that as well, the engines on the 175's seem a tad quieter than the QSK19 engines.

the N14s fitted to the 175s are a rail duty version of the engine fitted to the DAF XF 500 lorry of the time.

I prefer 158s because there much more reliable 175s does break down more when ATW had them they didn't look after them but 175s are nice trains there cool inside i do love the upgraded ones nice that they got chargers now also there fast 100mph on the WCML is good i like the 3 cars because there 3s but i live in west wales so i always see 150s and 175s so when i see a 158 it feels like a nice change if you know what I mean

They’re okay I think. The refurbs have helped a bit, but they still feel a bit plasticy. Much prefer the 185s (and the way TPE have decked them out helps). The non-refurbed TFW 175s can feel (and often smell) like a public convenience.

Yeah. 158s is my favourite units but kind of rare here in west wales they take over 175s well and 150s do if a 175 has failed or something

I'm in a rammed driving cab end vestibule with 12 or 13 other people initially, in a rammed 175011 on the 2210 CDF to CMN, and from what I can see, the "refurbishment" sorry "refresh" is to the usual standard - one guy pointed out the mold in the light diffuser

The seat I sat in on refurbished 175001 was no less comfortable than the one I sat in on unrefurbished 175106 a few hours prior. Although, as I mentioned before, I didn't compare different seats for levels of foam deterioration. And yes, that's amazing logic

To me, the seats in refurbished 175s (at least, the ones I've used) don't feel as comfortable. It feels to me as if the back of the seat itself is a little lower in comparison with the front. I haven't tried to work out if that's to do with the foam being thinner or if they've adjusted the seats in some way.

Interesting, I'll bear that in mind!

By the way, the hole I mentioned on 175001 was on 175011 as well - I realise now that it's not where plastic had broken off but an "actual" hole with what looks like some sort of keyhole for the door behind it

175003 had one engine out this morning; a fitter had a look at it but it ended up departing around 15 late on the 0555 from Carmarthen (towards Manchester Piccadilly but there was a unit change onto 175011 at Swansea) and I was riding in the "dead" rear vehicle and it was a wierd feeling It got up to 62mph before Burry Port

A few other things - the accessible toilet on 175011 is out of order (with that handwritten on the sticker), the hand dryer in the "standard" toilet doesn't work, and most ridiculously the roof leaks rainwater in quite badly... These units are in a substandard condition and really need to be properly sorted...

Also the "...we've installed CCTV cameras on this train" stickers have been reapplied in TfW style, so apparently TfW installed the CCTV cameras on the 175s that were already installed...?

I'd actually say the seats on 175s are the comfiest I've had on a DMU. Then again I haven't tried the refurbished version yet.

i might embed some videos of it raining inside 175011 this morning, it was pretty bad. with all the issues I've mentioned these 175 refurbs are a bit of a so-called "joke"...

Do you think it's because TfW are getting rid of them in a couple years? Perhaps they want to spend as little money as possible.

No, that's obviously not an excuse - it's still well below the standard required for even that, unless they were planning for two years of leaking rainwater inside (what even?!) and out-of order accessible toilets (PRM anyone...?) and hand dryers... I don't know what portion of the forty million pounds is allocated to the 175s, but it seems like Alstom are ripping them off... I'll post those videos later as I don't think it's understood just how bad that ridiculous thing that happens on 011 is

Nothing is perfect and faults do develop. Maybe you just got unlucky with the train you got on

I’ve not seen the problems you state, but I do try and stay well clear of the saloon area. Front, back or nowhere for me. Haha. Otherwise I’d have raised the issue myself.

Maybe, but I highly doubt that all those faults developed in such a short amount of time... and this was two units I observed various defects on

I love the new TFW livery PRM its got phone chargers on it well 175003 and 175107 hasn't but i didnot know 109 has PRM
