What are the class 170's that tfw use on the Cheltenham to Maesteg route like?
Do they have power points at the seats?
Any other words of wisdom will be helpful.

Yes, the 170s are some of the best trains that TfW operate.
I have never seen any overcrowding on them (unlike other TfW routes), and they have spacious seats and power sockets at them too.

A 2 or 3 car is usually expected.

Plus they have declassified first class which most 'norms' don't know about.

They can still get overcrowded, 2 coach Maesteg to Cardiff on a Saturday daytime, especially at Bridgend if the Manchester train is overcrowded they get left behind

They definitely do nowadays, particularly groups of local secondary school students between Newport & Cardiff who often sit there knowing it's standard accommodation.

I have found the TFW 170s really nice to travel on when I've occasionally used them. Its a shame they are tied to just Maesteg-Cheltenham and Cardiff-Ebbw Vale due to the only train crew being trained on them being the Cardiff mainline depot. They would be preferable to 150s and 153s on some longer distance runs.

170206 looked a bit knackered inside today. It appears to have had several tables removed, including one in declassified first class, and one seat has a CrossCountry cover on it.

Well I never knew the 170/2's had first class! I hope that is just a one off as it will feel like EMR is just inheriting everyone's junk with the LNER HST's, 156/9's and even the 170/5's have missing tables.

I rode one in March. This and no doubt others had been refurbished by TfW even though they are only there briefly before moving to another TOC, I believe EMR.

No 170s have been refurbished by TfW.

They've not been refurbished by tfw, they're pretty much as they arrived. Just happens that the Greater Anglia livery and exterior were similar to tfw

It was out not that long ago, exact date escapes me but was on an Ebbw Vale service.

They've not been refurbished by tfw, they're pretty much as they arrived. Just happens that the Greater Anglia livery and exterior were similar to tfw

It's really the interiors being similar to other TfW stock (150/158s) that made them look refurbished.
