TFW at Runcorn

Does anyone know why when a TFW service from Liverpool to Chester stops at Runcorn, it stops quite far along the platform beyond the station building. I think passengers find it quite strange it should do this. This doesn't happen on Liverpool bound services.

There's a mess of about 20 stop boards on most stations now, and no doubt, the drivers are stopping in the place the operators have told them to.

Common sense would dictate you'd stop the front of a 2-car train on the up platform level with the footbridge, however this is Railways-2024 version... and there is none. These 3000 stop boards per platform are like some bad GCSE project, many are in totally inappropriate places.

Must be that, im sure passengers waiting by the ticket office, to watch a 2 carriage train fly up the platform, must think " Why ? "

Worse in DOO areas, you can have a 10/12 car platform and a short formation will stop at the extreme end so the driver is adjacent to the mirrors / CCTV equipment.

I believe this is so that the Driver is able to see the route indicator on the signal at the end of the platform.

As the platform curves away if they stopped level with the station building they wouldn’t be able to see if the route indicator is illuminated, so could be a wrong route risk.

Could easily be solved by a co-acting signal or similar further down the platform, but that would have an associated cost!
