just wondering can you use a zones 1-9 travelcard on the trams

No. So long as your Travelcard has Zones 3, 4, 5 or 6 validity (which of course is included in a Zones 1-9 Travelcard), that'll be fine on Tramlink services.

That is correct. As long as you have at least one of zones 3, 4, 5 or 6 you can use any of the trams in any zone.
