Hi all,

Does anyone have any idea as to the approximate cost of a single TfL ticket/gate barrier machine, which is both Oyster and physical ticket compliant?

Only asking in so far as I would be interested in proposing an additional one or two ticket gates be put at my local station, via private sources of funding (I.e not paid for TfL directly). Though to do that, it would be helpful to know the cost of each ticket/gate barrier machine, if anyone has an idea of their cost (as a very rough order of magnitude?)

Thanks!

A significant five-figure sum, plus the enormous opex cost of having staff at the gatelines all of the time that it is operational

Out of interest what would the funders get out of this?
Reduced delays, and investment in the station in general, noting the station in question has a very limited number of barriers, so it gets very busy when each of the very few trains per hour arrives, which causes quite a lot of congestion at the barriers, in terms of people having to wait. To be clear, this is quite a remote station!

But of course, this all depended on the cost of each machine, as I had no concept of the cost of each. Hence the post to enquire. Thanks for the earlier post on this point.

Thanks. It would principally be the installation cost I suspect, for adding the extra barrier or two. As the existing two gates are not at all times staffed anyway.
