Hi there, I am new to this forum and was wondering whether it is quicker to receive journey history in the Transport For London App using a physical card or Apple Pay on the tubes. thanks for the help

It shouldn't make any difference whether you use a physical card or the wallet application. Details of the touches still get sent to the central system.

Howver the physical card can be viewed straight away on either the app or website when added. Wallet usage is only viewable when the back office association between the physical card account number and wallet virtual account number has been completed by TfL.

In my experience the appearance of wallet identities on TfL Go or their web portal is hit and miss; took me four attempts to successfully add a Google Wallet copy of my Lloyds credit card to my profile.

Then came the cyber incident, and when TfL reinstated contactless payment/journey histories my profile gained the three identities I'd previously tried to establish, useless as they were being over a year old and long since deleted from Google Wallet. I can hide them, but I can't remove them without removing my physical and live wallet identities because they all share the same lifelong credit account FPAN.* How ironic!

Regardless of which one you use it's the physical card details they require to establish your copy of the payment/journey history.

With Lloyds Banking Group swapping Mastercard for Visa credit cards I used my new Google Pay Visa last Tuesday and thankfully it has shown up on my contactless profile at the first attempt. To be safe I used the physical card first (earlier that same day, on a different journey) and waited until this morning to add the cards to my profile.

Out of interest - when a card is cancelled does its deletion from the TfL back-office happen 13 months from that point, or 13 months from its original expiry date?

I believe its deleted once the last journey disappears from the history.

Not in my experience.

Another unexpired/valid physical card I have is still listed after 30 months of non-use, and its Google Pay copy is still listed after a 25-month hiatus that ended recently. Both have the same reference numbers they were originally assigned.

Well that's not what I was told, but having just checked my hidden cards I can confirm that nothing has been deleted, a card which expired in 2020 is still there. I'll make enquiries as a normal user and see what I'm told this time.

Update. There is a "Remove this card from your account" option which does exactly what it says on the button. You are warned that to do anything beyond 7 day history you'll need to add it again, and if it has expired you won't be able to add it again.

BIB suggests it's a card where the FPAN didn't change on renewal. See my February post for comparison.
