They cannot hide behind it and delay refunds, journey corrections for much longer. They need to issue guidance to customers about how they are going to deal with things as soon as possible,
Agreed. Previously, the excuse was Covid. Now, expect any project delays to be attributed to the cybersecurity incident - Overground line renaming, 5G rollout, 2024 stock, Crossrail 2, Victoria line 2060 stock.

Hypothetically? Someone who has very low income, works on an extreme budget.
They had a maximum fare charged on Monday for some reason - let's say they went through a gate line, saw massive delays, so left again to get a bus.

This means that they are unable to pay a fare on Friday because of the unexpected spend on Monday.

Hi have there been any updates on when contactless payments will be back?
It's quite ridiculous that it hasn't been restored yet.

Where I've had unexplained charges on my contactless card I've done a chargeback via my credit card provider. I used the TFL website statement as the evidence that the retailer can't explain the charges or offer a refund.

Again, lots of sympathy for TfL staff, very little for TfL, if the bill for chargebacks reaches troublesome proportions for them.

As far as I can see TfL is in no position, at the present time, even to speculate as to whether or not any of the chargebacks may be opportunistic.

Doesn't every large organisation have a disaster recovery plan, with backup systems in place which can be used to keep services working while the recovery is in place?

For example, a while ago, the IT system at Hong Kong Airport went down, and the result was that the flights were written by hand using a notice board. In this case, why can't TfL process Zip Oyster applications using pen and paper, and non network connected systems?
They do, and this is it. Contactless is working, but in a degraded mode.

As for Zip Oyster applications, you would need to understand how the overall system works. My hunch, though, is that without use of central databases, the cards would not work or be able to be managed. If correct, that means (a) the contingency doesn’t work and (b) it would require a lot of manual updates later that could easily undermine the wider recovery effort.

Well, things might be improving a little. I saw a report yesterday that said applications for 60+ Oyster and some other discounted Oyster cards are being reopened.
