Specifically regarding rail travel, does the CountyCard have the same validity as the TrainCard (i.e. you can use it out as far as New Mills Newtown)?

I couldn't find it in this list, and the System One website has this map that indicates the Greater Manchester area, but doesn't include the proviso about New Mills and Disley.

Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

Countycard

Countycard is a Multi-Modal Season Ticket valid on all rail services and most buses within the Greater Manchester area – also valid on rail beyond the TfGM boundary to Disley and New Mills Newtown / Central. It is valid for periods of Weekly, Monthly and Annual only. Countycards are valid for travel on Metrolink services within the City Zone only. Price: Weekly £33.30; Monthly £104.00; Annual £1045.00.

So the answer to your question is "yes" regarding validity at New Mills Newtown.

This was something I was also wondering recently as their is no mention of it on the System One site and TfGM have removed all the highly informative leaflets and information from their site.

I could remember that the Traincard was so thought the Countycard would but couldn't remember off the top of my head.
