the Isle of Man Government ran one of these exercises around 25 years ago, on the IOM Steam Railway
They pinched two or three coaches from the Steam Railway, parked them in a cutting as a simulated crash and then cut them up
They chose the oldest surviving coaches..........deemed to be "less useful" despite being irreplaceable

If so, would that not have been the one that quickly changed into a non-exercise thanks to the events of 7/7?

I think they had it just before the events of July 7th, but it was shown out of sequence to real time

London, Surrey... bit of a blur round here...

Fair enough. I thought it was at the same time as I recall hearing that some people involved with both events initially thought that the July 7 events were part of the exercise, before quickly realising that they weren't. I probably just misunderstood what I heard and made that up though!

While these exercises are good (even at £770,000), they lack any element of surprise for the services involved.

They should be planned in secret and rolled out as a real time incident.

One of the spokespersons on the news today was so pre-scripted that it was embarrassing.

Do the incident with the confusion, lack of info and andrelanine of a real life incident and far more lessons could be learnt to improve future provision.

I can't say too much, but I will say you have no idea what went into the planning. I will also say that prior to the incident, people involved had no knowledge of what the incident actually was.

Thats alright - sometimes people get mixed up with September 11th when there was a hijack Excer on and that complicated matters.

Mind you, I suspect that more lives would have been lost if they'd not had the planned event just before - that helped a lot

There were quite a few examples of very good fortune with 7/7 which meant it wasn't as bad as perhaps it might have been.
