Veteran BBC broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan has died aged 77, after short illness, his family confirms.

One who will be known and remembered by several generations for all he did - Radio 2 breakfast, Wogan TV show, Eurovision and Children in Need to name but a few.

Sad news indeed. I was just waiting to see if he'd be coming back to his Sunday show on Radio 2.

I wasn't a great fan of Terry Wogan, but he certainly made a huge contribution to British Broadcasting in various different ways and will be missed by his army of fans.

He's the only reason I watched Eurovision, his jokes were the best and true.

Mum always had his breakfast show on as we got ready for school, as kids in the late 70s and early 80s. Hence the cross-generational nostalgia and sadness at his passing, I guess.

I remember two things in particular about Sir Terry and they both involved Kenny Everett; the first being the microphone bending on Blankety Blank and the second being Sir Terry's visit to the Broadcasting Under Manager...

A true internet pioneer. A whole generation of "I'm too old for new things" was thrust online when he and Paulie Walters brought emails and webcams to Wake up to Wogan in the mid 90s - back when you had to dial up the internet, back when you had to pay per month and pay per minute to do so.
