Apologies for this rather random query, but I was just wondering if anyone could advise of how the semi-permanent couplings, between engine and tender, on steam locomotives function.
There's this video on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_mUniyC23k - but it doesn't give much away.
When I've seen locomotives without-tender, the coupling appears to be a simple bar with a hole in, presumably to drop a pin through. However, the video would suggest that the coupling process is a bit more complicated.
