Temporary stations

Cant remember the year, but the West Somerset Railway had a temporary station between Minehead and Dunster for the opening day ceremony and guided tours of the new sewerage works on Dunster marsh around 1990ish.

Ebbw Vale Parkway is a temporary terminus is it not?, before they finally finish the Ebbw Vale Town extension

It's a temporary terminus, but not a temporary station. The plan has always been that it'll remain open when the extension opens.

Ramsline Halt at Derby, uses only a couple of times because it was on a siding and rules had to be bent to allow access by passenger trains. Still there somewhere under the buddleia!

It was used for derby county home games(old ground.)

I can remember a temporary platform being erected in Carlisle for weekend engineering works one weekend in 1995 I think on the spur from the main west coast to Newcastle line

Whilst we are in that neck of the woods ~ has anyone mentioned Workington North? I took a trip down there to knock the station off. Got a nice trip on the free loco hauled service from Maryport. It was much to posh for the residents of West Cumbria ~ can't be having them getting ideas above their station (Flimby).

Theale I recall had a temporary platform last year (?) in connection with engineering work at Reading.

Not that temporary though.

Theale's new platform was a prefabricated build, but it is still there, and they are about to provide it with a lift as part of the station access for all development...

Yes there was, I remember using it, there is no visibility of it now, the railway house that was in front of it on the corner has been sold along with the yard where access was gained to the single platform

On another note I was surprised that a temporary platform wasn't installed at Soham a couple of years ago when that freight train grounded on the bridge over the river a few yards onto the single line towards Soham

It would have saved the buses going to and from Bury for the 6 month duration and could have been kept there today, but that was too simple though

What about Corby, was that temporary before the current one or was the current one used before

Corby station reopened in 1987 and closed in 1990 due to low passenger numbers. It was never supposed to be temporary.

The current Corby station, which opened in 2009, is in roughly the same position as the old one but on the opposite side of the line.

This is probably a very silly question, but (and having read link) how could Trowse substitute for a closed Norwich? Just one DMU service?

This was between 11 April and 10 May 1992. The station, imaginatively called "Ely Temporary Station" was built to use while Ely Station and the surrounding junctions (North and Dock) were closed for complete remodelling and electrification.
All trains from the Peterborough direction called there, mostly terminating, with bus connections to Ely (for further buses to Cambridge or Bury St Edmunds) or to Shippea Hill (for trains to Norwich, which operated normally to this point). Buses also operated between Ely and Littleport or Downham Market to serve the Fen Line, where a couple of DMUs shuttled between there and Kings Lynn.

Trowse totally counts. It was so temporary in the 80s as to be surreal. Does anyone have any photos? There seem to be remarkably few on the web given that it was such a big deal.
