It's there to reduce the risk of a collision at the level crossing, as it is routinely misused / abused by motorists. It stays on until the LX is converted to MCB-OD.

The fact is that the location of the (automatic half barrier) crossing on a t junction is pretty awful. There is not much you can do if half way across a foreign hgv delivering to the nursery pulls out to turn right in front of you- you have to stop obstructing the railway or run in to the truck. It should have been replaced by an over bridge years ago, theres plenty of room on the Ford side.

Out of interest, is the low speed in the tunnel between Blackheath and Charlton a long-standing temporary restriction, or is that a permanent limit? I seem to recall someone on railforums saying that was due to the condition of the tunnel (though I'm not certain)

It's a Permanent Speed Restriction of 30mph.

Upon leaving Effingham Junction towards Cobham,. I started to notice trains slow down. For time they seemed slower than I remembered previously. Was or is that a TSR or a PSR?

Could the laws be changed so that TSRs have no time limits?

That was a Temporary Speed Restriction although I believe it has been removed recently. It had been there for many months.

Is the 100 on the Down Main at Ealing Broadway still there? Must have been there about two years if it is.

After all the talk of major work being necessary, the years old 20TSR through Ipswich tunnel on the down road has miraculously been spated this week.

Apparently there was the assumption it would be removed as part of the hub works.

Could well have been, but if the timetable spec has been developed on it being 25 it makes little difference. Making it 30 isn't going to get another train through it.

I dont know if this is a Temporary Speed Restriction or not , but 15/20 MPH on the line between Wembley Central and Shepherds Bush ( until the 3rd rail changeover point ) and the flydown near Wembley Yard does seem pretty slow , especially when the slow lines are 75/90 mph , and the fast lines 110 ( i think )

Is this a TSR , PSR , or is the line condition just terrible hence the low speed limits

I ask after two mind numbingly slow journeys today , especially as the train speeds up to a reasonable speed after the switch to 3rd rail .

It dates from the narrow window of time when the requirement to round the design speed (27 point something, IIRC, at Castlefield) down was accidentally removed in a revision of the design standard (a bit like the Wicked Bible) so the designer rounded it up to 30mph. I think the TSR went on the day it was installed and the wrangling went on for months.
