Temporary platform lighting

Is there any time limit on the use of temporary platform lighting? I ask because the westbound platform at my local station, Betchworth, has had a string of waist-level temporary lighting bulbs in situ for several months now, as the permanent lighting failed around Christmas. I am wondering if it has been decided just to leave the string of bulbs there permanently. They are pretty dazzling for users.

As the lights on the other platform are working, it's most likely there is a fault in the cable feeding the lights on this platform. The temporary lighting seems quite a reasonable substitution in the circumstances. I think it likely they are awaiting warmer weather and longer hours of daylight before tackling the installation of a replacement cable. The situation cannot be helped by the narrowness of the platform - gives little room for both workmen and passengers!

Indeed, and clearly the temporary lights were vital in first instance (although the platform remained open to traffic for almost a week with no lighting at all, albeit with a faint glow from the other one). Mine wasn't a complaint per se, just an enquiry if there is any set time limit on such lighting strings - I suspect not (there wasn't in my days at LU), but just checking. Oddly, there is one permanent light working at the far eastern end of the platform, suggesting perhaps that the cable has not failed, but who knows? I imagine the waist-level lighting must be quite distracting for drivers as they are quite dazzling. The platform width is an interesting one - for most of its length there is more room in front of the yellow line than behind it!

It's not ideal, but not unusual. A station on my patch had temporary lighting for 18 months on a platform before it was repaired.

Cheddington up slow does too. Has there been a recent audit finding lighting inadequate, or have there just been a stack of coincidental failures?
