Telford to Birmingham CDR validity

I have an Off Peak Day Return from Birmingham Stations to Telford for next Wednesday, which I bought off Red Spotted Hanky for a journey from Birmingham Moor Street to Telford via Smethwick Galton Bridge.

The return journey is for the 1653 from TFC, changing at SGB onto the 1730 to BMO.

It doesn't seem to be possible when booking to work out what the off peak restriction is for this ticket, but Brfares.com gives restriction DJ, which suggests that the ticket is not valid on the return journey. Full wording is:

By any train except those
timed to depart Mondays to
Fridays before 0900 and not
valid on any train departing
Birmingham New Street,
Birmingham Snow Hill,
Birmingham Moor Street, Five
Ways or Jewellery Quarter

RETURN TRAVEL
By any train_except not valid
Mon - Fri on any train

restriction does not apply if
passengers hold tickets for
through journeys i.e. if a
change of train is required at

So, can anyone confirm whether the ticket is valid, and if not how is it possible to find this out when booking? Is the restriction only intended for journeys starting at Birmingham, rather than ending there?

See the last paragraph of the restriction text you quoted. It isn't overly clear as only refers to changing at one of the five stations, but you will only be travelling two stops from Jewellery Qt to Snow Hill and then on to Moor St. If the journey planner has provided this itinerary then there should not be any problems.

I think the evening restriction is meant to prohibit you STARTING a journey at any of those 5 stations (including after a break of journey) and nothing more. Shame about the wording.

Many thanks for the quick replies. I'm not sure of the relevance of the restriction wording about changing trains as I don't have to change to get to the final destination on the ticket (although, in fact, I am changing trains using a different ticket for the onward journey).

Chances of a ticket check are remote anyway, but there seem to be plenty of posters in the 'Prosecutions' section of this forum who thought the same!

If you inadvertently travelled at a restricted time then you will be excessed to the appropriate ticket. There is no risk of prosecution unless you refuse to pay the excess fare so you don't need to worry.

That said it is not applicable to your journey this time anyway so enjoy your journey.
