Teesside airport station

Rather than close it, there are plans to re-site the station closer to the actual airport,making it usable for airport users. There is an article in 'Todays Railways' regarding the area and the line.

Plans? Yes. Will they happen? No. Would it be a waste of money if it did? Yes.

There are far far far bigger problems to tackle with the railways in this region than spending money to keep this airport station open when the vast majority of people will still drive to the station. Especially when you consider that the likelihood is that the airport itself will likely close to passengers in the not to distant future.

Daft as it may seam, but when/if the airport closes, and big new housing estate is built on it, then the case to keep the station open might be stronger.

I'd be surprised if maintenance costs are that high, at most a lick of paint once in a while, and not much else.

Inspection, Insurance, Signage, fuel, training, etc.

Just recently read something that the airport has asked for permission to change some of the car parking to storage to store Caravans.

It needs mothballing for the interim.

Well yes that might even happen. IIRC the airport at Washington near Sunderland became the Nissan factory.
