Tees Valley "Metro"

Does anybody know the current status of the Tees Valley (so called) "Metro"? It all seems to have gone very quiet and I haven't seen any evidence of the planned upgrades with exception of Hartlepool.

On a side note take a look at this map! If only there was the money for an actual 'metro' metro.

Last I heard it had been kicked into the very long grass (read 2020s) to see any real heavy investment from central government. It seems that if the local region and businesses can scrape together money to make things happen then DfT and such like would not oppose it but there will not be any central funding for some time and it is therefore effectively dead in the water. Which is shame because I think the Tees Valley has a great deal of potential for expansion in railway terms.

Also that map is a thing of beauty shame that we won't ever see anything like it

That's a real shame, I didn't know it had been put on hiatus. I thought the money was allocated from central government before the recent wave of infrastructure investment?

I know all too well the unfairness of central government funding. The north east is severely underfunded and quite frankly, as an urban planner, it makes me very angry our region has to beg to keep infrastructure in an 'ok' condition whereas London gets massive investment particularly in rail based transport. I read PPS statements and the outlook looks positive however in reality I, and the north eastern population are let down continuously.
It's a real shame!

One assumes it's highly diagrammatic otherwise as you rightly point out someone will really need to look at a map!
