In terms of cost, almost all of those journeys can be done on Advance tickets of some sort, and I would be surprised if any cost more than EUR39, except Basel to Brussels (via Luxembourg BTW).

You could consider taking advantage of your Dutchflyer ticket (which I gather is now a NS day ticket): instead of overnighting in expensive Amsterdam, spend the day there and go on to nearer the German border before using day 1 of your IR.
And if you aren't using IR for the next day, a Eurospecial Denmark will cover you from Bad Bentheim or Leer to Copenhagen.

That's actually quite a good idea there, certainly I'll look into that.

I know of a good quality hotel in Amsterdam that I'd like to return to, although whether it was reasonably priced or not I fail to remember!

It seems to be run by a Swedish company called Snalltaget (2 dots above first a, circle above second a). According to their website it runs from Malmo on Monday, Thursday and Saturday from 22 June to 9 August. Returns from Berlin on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Pretty much exactly the same as last year. I still have the little brochure they give you in it!

Except that the ferry service has been reduced by half, and as a result the train spends several hours stationary at Trelleborg northbound or Sassnitz(?) southbound. At least that gets you dinner on the ferry southbound.

Having looked through my subscribed threads I wondered how this proposed trip is progressing now it is 2016. The last post here was July 2015 !! The BBC are reporting that Denmark and Sweden are tightening border checkpoints to try and control mass migration, with maybe other EU countries following them ? Obviously could badly affect anyone planning a Eurorai trip this year !:cry:

Sorry guys, this trip is still a goer, just it's been pushed back to 2017. This year's major adventure got changed to New York, as the required ching for both of us was never going to be find-able at the time within the timescales needed.

I've since got a magic plastic, which means that by the time this Euro adventure goes ahead in approximately 14 months time things should be workable.

The border controls are going to be awkward, and not being able to do Copenhagen to Malmo will be a huge pain. Soon enough a new plan will be worked upon, but this will probably be after we come back from New York to be honest.

Having recently seen a video of a Taurus loco leaving Wien I've got the Euro bug again!

I don't think it is a case of not being able to do it, I just think that you will need to factor in more time for having to get off one train, pass through border controls and get on another train. An inconvenience, but nothing insurmountable.

Probably not, nothing more than what a UK traveller has to go through to enter the Schengen area. These border checks are little more than passport checks as you might find at any airport, Eurostar etc.

As a UK citizen (I presume) you'll be carrying your passport with you anyway, so it'll be nothing more than getting the passport out, handing it to the border control officer, smiling, getting it back and carrying on....

Ah fair enough, when it gets to that point I'll make enquiries to see what the arrangement is.
