Tea/coffee opinions

I realise that this is a Rail forum, but this is the General Discussion area and we can talk about pretty much everything here (within reason). So I'd like to ask people:

What are your opinions on hot drinks like tea and coffee?

There's a poll with this thread as well (which do you like more?) but that's not the main thing - I just sorta tacked it on. But it's multiple choice: tick the ones which are relevant to you.

Anyhoo, hot drinks: I'm a tea drinker (milk, no sugar) and, although I have had coffee before, I didn't like it that much - although I expect that I'll grow into it. Hot chocolate is also unbeatable, and fruit tea is something that I'm starting to get into - it started with the novelty of finding these little teabag-containing sachets at hotels (OK, a hotel) and on trains, and then discovering that they were quite comforting as well.

But I'd like to know your views. Coffee or tea? Any favourite brands (PG Tips, Tetleys, Twinings or YOOOOORKSHAAA TEA), favourite types of tea (black tea, Assam, Earl Grey, English Breakfast) favourite types of posh coffee-shop coffee (by which I mean espresso, latté, cappucino, the like), and perhaps more wild stuff like green tea and creamy coolers.

I've turned off in recent years to the hot milk with coffee splash shops that are everywhere... I'll typically got for a flat white if available.

More often, I'll drink instant "premium" coffee at work, Columbian preferred, with about 10-15% semi-skimmed milk.

Tea wise ? I won't drink tea at work at city water doesn't taste as nice as home water... A nice cup of Assam, Twinnings Everyday/Afternoon/morning tea for me !

No sugar, the tea round stopped me taking sugar at 17 years old... Everyone had a different idea of what two sugars was... Soon dropped to no sugar.

Instant coffee I have black. Shop bought coffee is a latte.
I'm having more tea (with milk) than instant coffee in the last couple of years.

Depends on what I'm drinking it for, sometimes I prefer tea, sometimes coffee. Sometimes both in the same mug.

In terms of hot drinks I only drink unmolested tea. No coffee, although like Harbornite I am partial to Hot Chocolate.

Tea all the way for me (with plenty of milk), my favorite brands are Tetleys, Scottish Blend and Yorkshire Tea. Coffee I just can't stomach. Am partial to the odd hot cup of chocolate, although not as often as I used to.

I like both tea and coffee, but I prefer tea and only tend to drink coffee first thing in the morning up to about 10 o'clock or so then I usually drink tea for the rest of the day. I'll sometimes have a hot chocolate before I go to bed and I like drinking Bovril now and again too.

Home - Yorkshire tea strong enough to dye your skin (with milk)
Work - weak as ****** PG tips muck. Black - drunk for refreshment only

Coffee:

Work - Plunger, Taylors of Harrogate, strong with Milk
Home - none
Out - Americano, black or with skimmed milk

Of course Tea is best. We are English.

I rarely have have a coffee shop coffe as often too bitter and strong for me, interestingly its mainly when bashing that I do with my fave being Ritazza.

At home Im Nescaf gold blend and as hinted at above Yorkshire tea. Both the above blends become decafinated after around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Often a hot chock in evenings

Tea or coffee, milk no sugar, I don't mind. Clipper organic teabags, but I have to confess to preferring a latte when it comes to coffee. For some reason I can only eat biscuits when accompanied by tea. Shortbread or custard creams, nothing else will do.

Tea - Strong with milk, preferably Yorkshire teabags but I can cope with Scottish Blend.

Coffee - Flat white or a black americano.

I like Barry's Tea myself (especially the Gold Blend), it's certainly a strong contender for my favourite tea. Yorkshire Tea is another of my favourites as well, although I generally drink any tea as long as it has a decent taste and it doesn't cost a fortune. I like apple tea as well, but I've never been able to find it anywhere unfortunately.

Coffees I like are Douwe Egberts, Nescafé and Kenco.

I am not a fan of Earl Gray either, I actually despise it, but I do drink it every year. The reason is that I had a very close friend who liked it and one of the very last things we did together was her trying to get me to like it... I lost her a week later.

Every year, on the day she died, I switch from Yorkshire Tea, to Earl Gray in her memory

Thank you... It has been ten and a half years, but I still think about her every single day - planned the whole of our lives together... Even going to stand in a Church to make her happy. When I finally got 142009 for haulage after twenty years of missing the unit, the first thing I did was have a cup of Earl Gray in the cafe upstairs at Man Picc because we both loved pacers and I knew she'd have got a kick out of me finally getting it.

Not to divert the topic away, but talking about Rudy makes me wonder if anybody else has a story a bit like mine - they drink a certain type for a reason

Thank you very much... We both loved trains as well as tea - I suppose it explains why I am so fanatical about pacers!

My grandmother will only drink Yorkshire these days and this has been the case for a number of years. She slowly converted me and now thats the only regular tea brand I buy

For me...
Before marrying an Italian: Tea with milk.

After marriage: Cappuccino in morning, espresso short black at all other times (maybe with a dash of Strega liqueur in the coffee after dinner).

Anyway, I prefer cheese and onion. Tesco's own brand for choice or Seabrook's if I can get them. I also like Monster Munch (pickled onion are best), Wotsits, Quavers, Hula Hoops and Discos.

Tea or Coffee? Depends on the time of day. Breakfast - Tea. Day time alternate tea and coffee. Evening - if not beer then decaff tea. Always white, no sugar (unless made far too strong by someone else). Always tea bags for tea, instant for coffee. Can't stand ground coffee as it more often than not tastes like an ashtray with water added. (How do I know? Smell is particulate so smelling an ashtray with water added is the same as tasting it!)

Also, the poll needs a 'I like tea and coffee equally' option.

Give me a strong black coffee with sugar in the morning - something decent too, no instant crap!

In the afternoons I'm quite partial to either a cappuccino or a cup of Earl Grey (with milk and sugar).

Yeah, I thought that was strange. It turns out that General Discussion isn't actually for General Discussion. Who'd have thunk it, eh?

Try Kettlechips cheddar & red onion - great crisps. Agree with you about Wotsits and Quavers, though I've never had Discos.

I think that tea is best white, though have been forced to drink it plain on occasion when there's been no milk. I'm a big fan of Assam actually - though any kind will do.

Lapsang is particularly good.

As for the voting option, why not just vote for each?

I've never liked coffee, might have an occasional hot chocolate or bovril but in the warm weather I stick with bottled water.
