How does TRUST receive updates of train movements when the train describer output is not available?

Yesterday, there was a regional issue affecting the train describer feed in the South West which meant real-time updates to Traksy, RTT and other sites dependent on the describer were largely nonfunctional.

During this time, RTT was still showing arrival/departure times of services at some major stations. Hovering this data indicated it was sourced from TRUST. At other locations and intermediate timing points it was reporting "no report" for passage of services.

Is the data entered manually into TRUST in such circumstances, or is the upload to TRUST a separate feed to the open TD API?

Trust takes manual updates in addition to the SMART berth-step updates. It also appears to be able to take updates from GPRS systems on the face of it, although I'm not sure if this happens in practice.
