Taxis inside stations

Before it was rebuilt in the 60s, Brum New St was split down the middle by a roadway named Queen's Drive which had it's own taxi rank. When I was at Old Oak, the staff bus to Padd often used the taxi road that came in over the suburban platforms and went down between platforms 8 and 9. There's a very sharp left hand bend in it just before you enter the station itself.... there were a few near misses back in those days!

Both the Waterloo and Victoria cab roads were converted into an additional pair of platforms roughly 20 years ago weren't they? I remember the work taking place - I'm sure I've got a blurry photo somewhere of the work in progress at Victoria.

Yes, the two extra platforms were constructed at Waterloo prior to the old Windsor lines platforms (16 - 21) being demolished to make way for the Eurostar terminal.

Both Liverpool Central High Level & Liverpool Exchange had a taxi rank between their platforms. They were closed in 1972 & 1977 respectively.

In addition, Manchester Exchange springs to mind. Closed 1969.

Llandudno may still have taxis in the station, it did a few years ago.

Euston has vehicular access to the platorms to the far left of the station (16-18?). I've seen coaches sitting there a few times waiting to collect London footy teams that have played up north. Last time I saw it was a couple of years ago on the way back from Fulham's trip to either Liverpool or Manchester United (can't remember which); our lot had the first carriage of first class booked out and the coach was parked up alongside the platform waiting for them.

Typing this reminds me actually: when Liverpool played Athletico Madrid in the Europa Leage semi-final in 2010 the ash cloud prevented them from flying. So, they travelled down by train to London, caught the e* to the continent and then flew the rest of the way from there. I do believe I read somewhere that they had coach transport laid on between Euston and St. Pancras to avoid the crowds / fans!

Many a time when working there used to have the access road at the top not for an RVP but also for emergency vehicles to access the station..

A few months ago while waiting for 1K39 I saw a coach picking up a football team on the wide bit between platforms 2 and 3, so they can do this at the other side of Euston as well.

Now, I'm not into football but I can remember that the team in question was Wigan Wanderers - or at least that's the name that was plastered all over the coach! The team did not arrive in those platforms; they were marched round from another platform via the service zone underneath the ramps.

They did. It might seem a tad ridiculous, but really it makes a heck of a lot of sense. Trying to shepherd the team, all the support staff and all the luggage along Euston Road or along the back streets would be a nightmare.

Still does!... the rail replacement buses use it when they are running to Liverpool St. it's great to see four or five double deckers all inside the station! Not sure whether cabs still run onto it though.

According to the National Rail website, the cab rank is still there. I will have a look tomorrow morning.

"Taxis are available at the rank along platform 10 (during station opening hours) and outside the station entrance (during station closing hours)."
