Sorry it's in the wrong section but I need advice urgently

I'm trying to get from Euston to Tamworth, but the 2031 is cancelled, as it's the last train of the night, if I travel to stafford would I be able to claim back the cost of an Uber/taxi back to Tamworth?

The staff at Euston are absolutely clueless and just keep passing me from perso to person

Thanks I advance

Try calling them on 0345 528 0253 opt 2 to ask how they will get you home / if they will approve a taxi from X to Y. Ideally recording it if you can. They close at 22:00 however.

Or try to speak to the station manager at Stafford (you might get the same pretending not to know anything by anyone less senior / unable to find anyone...). Or try the help points (record with your phone)

ie you're seeking some kind of authorisation as it's not an absolute right to hop in a taxi and get refunded.

If you can prove you've attempted to seek authorisation a refund claim would be much easier I imagine.

Relevant section of Conditions of Travel:

"28.2 Where disruption prevents you from completing the journey for which your Ticket is valid and is being used, any Train Company will, where it reasonably can, provide you with alternative means of travel to your destination, or if necessary, provide overnight accommodation for you"

Thanks, I have called Avanti and was put on hold for 13 minutes until the disconnected due to signal, I've tried calling back but it's now closed so I think I'll have to just act dumb at Stafford and see how it goes.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

The lack of information at Euston and staff not even pretending to care really was disgusting, I've had some poor experiences at Euston but this one is the icing on top of the cake.

Best of luck!

Depending how much you're willing to exercise your rights, you may need to quite politely and firmly stand your ground to get them to organise and pay for a taxi, by remaining on the platform/in the station, pointing out you're stranded and that you have a ticket to Tamworth.

Though given the time of day, staff may be quite difficult to find (I'm not familiar with Stafford though).

A video of you trying to find someone might help, if all else fails. Probably bit overkill but I imagine a ~45 min taxi this time of night won't be uber cheap...

In situations like this my stance would be to be firm and tough.

It is the railway's responsibility to get you to your destination or provide you with overnight accommodation at whatever cost to them.

Do not pay out of your own pocket for a taxi unless you want to risk a battle to see that money again.

Simply assert your rights with staff and refuse to back down until the railway fulfils its obligations.

Hopefully others will be in the same situation as you too, with a queue of people building up behind you getting increasingly irate the railway's hand is more likely to be forced.

Don't forget to claim delay repay as appropriate, too.

Little update, on arrival at Stafford I explained where I was trying to get for and they organized an Uber for me and couldn't have been nicer.

Staff at Stafford arw a credit to Avanti.

Shame about their counterparts af Euston, that's going to leave a sour taste for a long time.

I'm surprised nobody at Euston suggested going via Birmingham. As it turns out you would have just made the last train New Street - Tamworth, but even if you didn't a taxi from Birmingham would be cheaper than one from Stafford.

All I got was just keep checking the departure board, no one was interested.

Didn't help that the 2031 wasn't announced as cancelled until about 2115 and the Birmingham services were also disrupted by displaced crew.
