Some friends and I will be travelling Glasgow - Cairnryan - Belfast in February. We will be taking the 15:30 ferry from Cairnryan. For that particular sailing, it looks like it is still possisble to take the 11:42 from Glasgow Central to Stranraer (arriving 13:54).

Are there taxis at Stranraer station? If not, is it possible to call ahead earlier in the day and book one?

We would much rather do this than have the hour long bus ride from Ayr, even if it costs more.

Surely the bus from Ayr to Cairnryan will take more than an hour?

There are no taxi rank or office facilities at Stranraer Station, you will need to phone and book ahead - bear in mind that mobile signals are virtually non existent between Ayr and Dunragit.

Try also Day and Night (D&N) on 01776.700400 who are cheaper than Macleans.

Should calling prior to boarding at Glasgow be sufficient?

Yes. Anywhere prior to Ayr really. Just tell them which train your arriving on and most of the time the taxi's will be waiting for you at the end of the ramp.

You will need to go and ask the driver of your chosen firm which is for you if they have more than one car their.

What about taking this train to Girvan?
edit :
Sorry forget that option, connection is too tight if train is late

Mobile phone reception at Girvan rail station is very good
I would suggest you get prices the previous day
Phone back then book, advise you will phone to confirm the train is at Girvan and this will help them know if the train is on time or late
